We just spent a superb day cycling with 8 others on an English speaking cycle tour in the countryside around Monopoly. There were four stops at private mansions, at ancient grotto where olives were pressed for hundreds of years You get to learn about the trees the varieties the oils and how the ground and the elements affect the final taste. It’s an amazing 4 to 5 hour tour where you learn and end up tasting the 7 varieties their family produces and you enjoy the company of others on the way. Above Antonella and Gianni are amazing generous hosts. If you’re in Puglia , this is a must do activity
Highly recommend this trip, gentle cycle through Olive Groves down dusty Olive Farm tracks. See inside historic Grotto Churches, Olive Farms and old Olive Oil equipment. Very knowledgable and friendly guide who also has her own Olive Oil land so is really passionate about showing us the past and future challenges in Olive Oil farming. Great tasting afterwards as well, learnt a lot and had fun! Thank you
Thanks Belinda!! :)
We had a fabulous morning our riding in the countryside near Monopoli. Antonella is a fantastic guide - she is so passionate about the culture of Pulia and the history of the olive oil industry and how it has changed over many centuries. The tour visits farm properties that are not open to the public so it’s like touring with a local. The riding is easy and Antonella makes lots of stops along the way. At the end of the tour there is a great sampling of local products including olive oil in a shop in town.
Thanks so much!!
This tour was unique. It combined cycling along the coast and through beautiful thousand-year old olive groves, very interesting history, learning about olive tree cultivation and oil production, and ends with a tasting back in Monopoli. Antonella and Gianni are warm, lovely people, and also very impressive entrepreneurs. I give this tour my very highest recommendation.
Outstanding! You will get a beautiful relaxing ride with amazing history. HIstory of the Monopoli area, history of important families and homes in the area and the history of olive trees and olive oil production. Additionally you will visit well preserved underground churches, and visit some olive tree gardens. and farms. You will also meet some great people along the way. Our guide, Antonella, was very personable and knowledgeable.
We joined the bike & olive oil tasting tour in Puglia and it turned out to be one of those slow travel experiences you remember long after your trip. The bikes were in great condition (almost brand new), and the route was relaxed—perfect for soaking up the atmosphere without any rush. Our guide Antonella was absolutely wonderful. Together with her husband, she runs both the shop and the bike tours, and you can really feel the passion and personal touch in everything they do. During the ride, Antonella shared so much about the history of Puglia and the traditional olive oil production process—it was engaging, informative, and never felt like a standard tour. The tasting itself took place in a small, charming shop filled with traditional Puglian ceramics and their own locally produced olive oil. We learned how to properly taste olive oil, which was surprisingly insightful. Alongside that, we also enjoyed local wines, pesto, and tapenade, which made the experience even more special. A beautiful mix of cycling, culture, and local flavors—highly recommended if you want to discover the more authentic and hidden side of Puglia.
Amazing bike tour through olive farms and visited three with caves under the main houses. People lived in these caves long before the farmhouses were built. Guide was terriffic and told us many things the olive oil industry including that there are over fifty types of olive trees. We did a wonderful tasting of 6 oils, 4 tampenades, 3 jams, wine, fried orrecciette, and prickly pear liquor. The star of the trip were the incredible over one thousand year old olive trees we passed!! I highly recommend this tour.
The best tour trip we have been on! A must do if you are interested in food, history and culture! Antonella is wonderful - warm, funny and very knowledgeable. The locations we visited were amazing and they are not open to the public. A very big thank you.
This ride was fantastic! You'll enjoy a very authentic feel for Monopoli's city center and countryside. Antonella is patient and warm and has a great ability to communicate. At each property we visited, a portion of a great historical picture was revealed, not only of olive farming and oil production, but of centuries of life in Puglia. Antonella's comparison of old methods of olive oil production alongside the very newest really instill an appreciation for both, and gratitude that there are new generations that care enough to continuously strive for improvement 🫒
Thank you so much!!
This activity was so fun and unique! We got to see the countryside of Monopoli, ride through olive groves and visit places that aren’t open to the public, all while learning about the process of cultivating olives and making olive oil. Antonella was organized, welcoming and knowledgeable. The price was fair, the group size perfect and it was an ideal activity length. The tasting was informative and the snacks were great. We finished the tour in Antonella’s boutique which was perfect to pick up souvenirs & olive oil!
