A origem da vila de Riomaggiore, de acordo com uma antiga lenda transmitida oralmente, mas não validada por fontes históricas, remonta ao século VIII. Na verdade, diz-se que um grupo de refugiados gregos, para escapar das perseguições do imperador iconoclasta Leão III Isaurico, após várias vicissitudes desembarcaram na ponta do Montenero e estabeleceram assentamentos na área da serra. Andrea was a great skipper. We motored from a Santa Margherita to his Cinque Terre. The boat was quite luxurious. He taught us about all the small villages along our journey. When we got to Cinque Terre, he had prearranged a lunch in a truely local restaurant - with the best seat in the house. We felt truly spoiled. We stopped for pictures along the way and had lovely conversations and about his love of Italy and the regions z

We had a great time with our captain! He was very flexible with location and time of pick up, and was able to make reservations in advance for lunch at one of the stops. We have a teenager and a 21 year old that loved the cliff diving! I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a personalized experience!!
The best part of Cinque Terra was the trip from Portofino by boat and back to Portofino. We were extremely fortunate to have found Andrea. His personality was delightful and his knowledge of each of the five cities was very extensive. When it was lunch time, he was able to make reservations at a spectacular restaurant with an amazing view, even though the restaurant was already totally booked. It would be hard in our estimation to find a better boat captain to enjoy Cinque Terra. I do not want to neglect mentioning his boat, I did not see a better one, it was clean with beautiful lines and handled the seas in comfort.
