What an adventure. From pick up to drop off, our guide Adrian exceeded expectations with his attention, knowledge, and flexibility. He was attentive and shared cultural and nature facts allowing us to connect with our experience. Suited up in waterproof ponchos and cowhide chaps, we saddled up and took in the beauty of Cotopaxi and surround areas on horseback. We had planned to hike to Cotopaxi’s base camp but the combination of the 60 mph winds and our less than ideal attire, we opted to trek around Limpiopungo Lagoon where we took in spectacular views of Cotopaxi. Overall, it was an amazing experience. *if you are considering the hike to the Cotapaxi base camp, know that hiking boots/shoes, long waterproof hiking pants with under layers, layers of shirts under a waterproof jacket, buffs for neck that covers ears and face, warm hat that is secure (mine somehow was pulled off from under my rain jacket and flew over the cliffs edge), and sunglasses. Expect to get wet and struggle against the wind and altitude.
Thanks for your advising and detailed review. This is a very useful information for potential new participants. The transition from rainy season to summer time always brings some unpredictable weather conditions. But nothing thag proper equipment and one of our warrior guides can't defeat haha. Thanks again for supporting our small community business project and safe travels amigos.
Our experience at Cotopaxi exceeded our expectations. We felt safe throughout the tour. The view of Cotopaxi was breathtaking. Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and made the tour truly amazing.
Thanks for your review Jesie. Happy to hear from you about your experience with our local guide Pauli. Hope to see you back to Ecuador soon.
Alba was an amazing guide, kind and interesting. Sadly, the weather was terrible and we never saw Cotopaxi. We hiked to the base camp in driving wind, rain, and sleet. Still, we are glad we did it! Alba was patient and kind. The horseback riding was a delight. Better than expected. Even though we didn’t have good views, riding horses through the beautiful landscape was wonderful. We enjoyed getting to stop at the Cotopaxi museum and also feed the alpacas. We would love to come back and do it again in nice weather. Pack many layers and make sure your top layer is waterproof. Also, tall hiking boots are really a must even though we saw plenty of people braving it in tennis shoes. Weather in the mountains is always unpredictable. Still, we are really glad we went!
Thanks for your review Deanna. Happy to hear from you about your experience with our local guide Alba. Weather conditions is something will always be an upgrade for this experience to become an adventure but still always grateful for having the opportunity to live it. Thanks for your review.
The tour started off with a horseback ride. My Tour Guide Pamela provided me the briefing and told the horseride guide that it was my first time to better assist me during the horse ride. She made sure that I am safe and comfortable with the horse before start of the ride. It was an incredible experience 1 hour or so navigating the ground of Cotopaxi National Park. After the horse ride, we went on to drive up the Cotopaxi Volcano. It was raining really hard, strong winds, and poor visibility. Thank you for our driver Eddie for navigating us through the rugged and treacherous road to the Hike parking lot. Amazing driving skills! I was not able to complete the hike and decided to go back. Pamela was so understanding and recalibrated the tour to fit the current situation. We ended up going to a short hike along a lagoon, where Pamela taught me about the flora and fauna along the way. At the end of the tour, we ate lunch in a nice and affordable restaurant with Ecuadorian Cuisine. I had a great time with both Pamela and Eddie. Wouldn’t have asked for anything else!
Thanks for your detailed review about your experience with Pamela and Eddie at Cotopaxi national park along this adventurous day.
It was an amazing day, lovely experience and incredible memories for the rest of our lives. Can’t recommend enough this tour, trust me this will impress you and left satisfied. Our guide Darío was very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. We did really enjoyed this!
Really appreciate your review Alona. Happy to hear from you about your experience with our local guide Dario. Thanks for the support to this community business project.
There isn’t enough space to express how fantastic this experience was, but I will try. First, Cotopaxi is among the most beautiful places I have ever been, and I have traveled to over 30 different countries. You will never ever forget this place. The horseback riding is amazing, through fields of gold that dance in the wind. The horses are happy and healthy, and you will feel perfectly safe. I was really there for the hike to basecamp, but I’m so glad I booked the horseback riding portion of the tour. But what really made this journey so remarkable was my guide, Jorge Sandoval, the owner of the company. He picked me up at my hotel in the busy heart of Quito, and — as accurately promised on the website — drove me to and through the park via a remote road void of any tourists. This experience is definitely tailored for travelers who prefer a road less traveled. And Jorge isn’t just a guide. He’s a genuine naturalist who speaks perfect English. His understanding of the surrounding environment is both educational and inspiring. He’s poetic and philosophical. The type of person you will tell your friends about. He appreciates silence as much as conversation, and yet when he speaks you will listen. As he said, “Cotopaxi isn’t just a mountain, it’s a volcano that breeds land and life. It’s alive, and you will feel her energy.” And he was absolutely right. There is something truly magical about this place. For anyone who is unsure about venturing out of Quito for a day trip, do not pass up this opportunity. It will be one of the top highlights of your trip.

Everything was so easy and comfortable. Communication was perfect before the trip. The guide and driver were so friendly. The horseback riding goes through stunning scenery. Cotopaxi is a must! This company also arranged airport pick up, a day tour around Quito, and the Equator museum. Highly recommend!!
