Dinner is not the word for the food served. It was more like a starter. Or something you get in prison white bread butter and boild shell fish you had to shuck yourself and a single leaf of green. Advertised as a dinner cruise on a real sailing ship. Well no sails unfurlled just the possibility motorized the whole 3 hours set up on deck bench with a broken table. Sad. The staff were friendly and the fjord was beautiful thats why 2 stars instead of none. Just dont think your going to sail or that your going to eat a real meal.
More information would have been good. Don’t expect too much on board; it’s not a party boat, it’s far better than that. Nice wine and a few prawns. The Captain was a very very nice man, who made the voyage even better and we spent a very pleasant evening chatting with an American couple.
Do not go- the dinner cruise aboard a sail boat is misleading- they never put up sails- I also confirmed this with a crew member who said they never put up sails for a dinner cruise. Should have been advertised as a power boat cruise with no shelter from the cold evening wind. The shrimp for dinner was plentiful but super small by the time you got the head off and the shell and tail you might have a 3/4 inch left. I had to peel 30 shrimp just to get a sandwich. Total bad experience!
Thank you for sharing your experience. The vessel is a genuine sailing ship, but sails are never hoisted during our scheduled dinner cruises. The wind conditions in the inner Oslofjord are rarely sufficient to operate a timetable under sail—and doing so with dining passengers would be quite a tall order. The dinner is a traditional Norwegian shrimp buffet with Greenland prawns: small 80/100 size, flavourful and served shell-on for guests to peel themselves. That is very much part of the experience. Indoor seating is also available. We’re sorry this was not the cruise you expected.
Very well navigated when despite much wind did not "roll" on the ship.
Takk for en herlig tilbakemelding!
Lovely cruise on a beautiful boat with attentive crew. Tasty prawn salad and wine and beer while taking in the vista.
Thanks for a great review!
I enjoyed the sights. The dinner was limited and not worth the cost. Only one choice, which I did not like (shrimp) and bread and lettuce. It seemed to be more about drinking than anything else. I enjoyed the music.
Thank you for your feedback. We're glad you enjoyed the scenery and the live music on board. Our Dinner Cruise is built around a traditional Oslofjord summer experience. For generations, locals have gathered by the fjord to enjoy fresh shrimp, bread, butter, mayonnaise, lemon, and a drink with friends and family. Rather than a multi-course dinner, the cruise is meant to recreate this relaxed Norwegian tradition on the water. We completely understand that this concept may not meet everyone's expectations, especially if you're expecting a more varied dinner menu. Your feedback is appreciated, and we'll continue looking for ways to make the experience as clear as possible before guests book. Thank you for sailing with us, and we hope to welcome you on board again.
What a wonderful three hours, not just cruise the beautiful fjord, but cruise past so many incredible homes asking the shore, some big, but most just small cottages where you see how the lucky Norwegian live! Food was great! My granddaughter went back three times and taught us all how to easily remove the shrimp from the shells. Should be taught, table side, by the crew! The crew was wonderful, getting more drunks for us and the kids! Great time by all!
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're delighted to hear that you and your family had such an enjoyable evening on the Oslofjord. It’s great to know you enjoyed both the scenery and the dinner, and we love that your granddaughter became the shrimp expert at the table! We might just have to borrow that idea for future cruises. Thanks again for sailing with us. We hope to welcome you back on board the next time you're in Oslo!
We had a perfect night for a sail. We were under the impression that we would be served dinner, so I was expecting a bit more. What we were served was a make yourself/buffet-style of an open-faced shrimp sandwich. Now, I’ve had these many a time in my life, but if you don’t know what they are, you wouldn’t know how to make it. None of the condiments were labeled. Also, we had to peel our own shrimp (fully shelled and with the head) in order to make it. There were no bowls of water to rinse the shrimp off once peeled or wet napkins given to wipe our hands off. It was dirty and messy and not well thought out (given we were on a sailboat and it was rocking back and forth). Also, it would have been nice if the captain or staff had pointed out the different landmarks. Instead, I spent time Googling as we passed by. Also, this cruise is three hours and could have definitely been two. Lastly, if you have someone who has difficulty walking or doing stairs, I wouldn’t recommend this. The last step getting on the ship is much higher, and my mother tripped and fell.
Thank you for your feedback and for joining us on board. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the evening sailing on the Oslofjord. Our Shrimp Cruise has been a Norwegian summer tradition for many years and is intentionally designed as an authentic local experience. The historic sailing ship is more than 100 years old, and both the vessel and the food experience reflect traditional coastal culture rather than a modern dinner cruise concept. The product is advertised as a shrimp buffet, which in Norway typically means whole shrimp served with bread, butter, mayonnaise, lemon and salad. Peeling the shrimp yourself is very much part of the tradition and an experience that generations of Norwegians have enjoyed on summer evenings along the coast. It sounds as though you may have expected a different style of dining experience, which is understandable if this Norwegian tradition is unfamiliar. Our aim is not to offer a formal restaurant dinner, but rather an authentic evening on the fjord aboard a historic sailing vessel, enjoying one of Norway's most beloved summer meals. As for sightseeing commentary, this particular cruise is primarily a social dining and sailing experience rather than a guided tour. The focus is on the atmosphere, the vessel, the scenery and the food. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts. While this experience may not have matched your personal expectations, we are glad that you were able to enjoy a beautiful evening on the Oslofjord aboard one of Oslo's historic sailing ships.
The cruise was fine but the dinner was not good. Just white bread, lettuce, and small, poor quality shrimp that were difficult to peel and often full of eggs. That’s it.
Thank you for sharing your experience. Glad to hear you enjoyed the cruise – sorry the meal wasn’t quite what you expected. The shrimp we serve are cold-water shrimp from the waters off Greenland, specially harvested for this purpose. They are gently thawed and served fjord-style – just as locals enjoy them – with white bread, mayonnaise, and a slice of lemon, much like a summer evening on the pier. Some shrimp have roe, which are the small “eggs” you mentioned. This is actually considered a mark of quality – many locals see it as the best part of the shrimp. Of course, it’s not to everyone’s taste, but it’s part of the authentic Norwegian fjord experience, where locals and visitors alike share the same meal onboard. Appreciate you taking the time to leave a review – feedback like this helps us present the experience more clearly for future guests.
A calm and beautiful trip around Oslofjord on a sunny evening. Just seating and watching the scenery was very relaxing and peaceful. The crew were lovely, the shrimp dinner very enjoyable with the drinks. I was beginning to think I had won the lottery!
Thank you so much for the wonderful words. Thrilled to hear you enjoyed a calm and sunny evening on the fjord – and that the shrimp, drinks, and scenery hit the spot. The crew will be delighted to know they made your trip feel like a winning ticket!
