Excellent food choices and locations. Great job by our guide. Each place was uniquely Scottish. Lots of stmosphere.
Dougie, our driver and guide, was exceptional in showing us what he'd discussed at the ancient sites we visited. Later in the tour, he mentioned Orkney's important role during the two world wars. Dougie took time to get acquainted with everyone in our group and was a kind but effective shepherd for us.
Despite managing to book this the one day Skara Brae was closed due to the (extraordinarily) high winds, this was an *excellent* day tour. I had 3 days on the island but no car, and would recommend this tour to anyone - even if you have more than a day to spend on Mainland. The ferry was very late but our fantastic guide, Dougie, didn't make us feel rushed, and gave us a warm welcome as well as loads of pertinent info about not just every stop (he obviously knows and loves his Orkney history) but also about island life. He also took us to an extra stop, still keeping well to time for those who had to catch the ferry back. So we didn't get to see Skara Brae, but the added stop was really interesting and the perfect close to a great tour. I went to the (optional) Italian Chapel and felt it worthwhile despite that meaning I chose to spend just 10 minutes in the amazing Cathedral rather than having an hour to explore Kirkwall. Normally I'd choose more free time on a 'tour', but am glad I opted for the chapel: Dougie gave us loads of interesting context about it, and also the drive there and back meant we saw even more of Mainland, and heard more about the islands. (I should add, Dougie actually invited questions and was actively interested in us 8 strangers; that's a great quality in a guide, especially one who has so much to share about the trip they could get away with just talking all the time!) So, I recommend this tour even if the ferry's late, it's POURING with rain (it was; Dougie lent us jackets); the winds are crazy-high, AND you don't usually opt for group tours! Do *this* tour; you won't be sorry!
Great informative tour, very flexible. The ferry was an hour late but they wait. Dougie knows a lot and tells it in a very interesting manner
Our guide, Dougie, was excellent. He was thoroughly knowledgeable about the history of this lovely island and also had a wonderful sense of humor. We thoroughly enjoyed our day and Dougie who even went the extra mile to take us to an additional area as there was time on our schedule. We highly recommend him! Thank you Dougie! Susan and Debi
When you have limited time (1 day), this is an efficient way to explore Orkney. But more important because of the small group of 8 it was personal, we had the feeling that we have seen the most interesting places, at least from historical perspective. The group was nice, even more the guide who was fantastic with enormous knowledge of the history of the area but also the current situation. And he managed to avoid crowded places. All in all a great experience with Orkney Travel
The whole trip was very good from start to finish. Doogie our guide for the day was waiting when we got of the ferry he was funny and very knowledgeable of the Orkneys. We would highly recommend this trip
Great day out. Our tour guide, Rob, was very knowledgeable and helpful. Would thoroughly recommend.
Amazing journey in Orkney and Kirkwall with a fantastic touring company! I didn't read the entire description of the excursion which did not give us enough time back the cruise ship BUT... this great travel company worked within our time constraints so our group could join and drop off in time for embarkation. Most companies would have said oh well!Impressive customer service! The tour was worth the journey and very informative. I have found that Scotland natives are very knowledgeable and friendly which made our day very pleasant... unlike some other destinations. Absolutely go with this company if you are looking for a tour that will go above and beyond to be sure you get what you paid for!
This was a terrific tour with a great guide. Very knowledgable and kept everything running on track. We were fortunate to have lovely weather too and felt we got to see a bit of amazing history, some beautiful views and a really nice day trip. We wished we could stay longer... maybe next trip!
