If you don't rent a car, this is an alternative way to get you from Waikiki to North Shore, but you don't get to really go to the beach for long. And the operator we had didn't have much of a personality, so really, it was just like a bus trip.
Very informational about pineapples etc. The macadamia nut stop was great. The driver was very helpful. Great trip.
We had our driver Marvy - he was the best!! As we drove he gave us an informative AND interesting explanation of everything we were passing. He made us laugh and he made us say oh wow! We stopped first at a Coffee Farm. The coffee was delicious and we were able to buy some coffee beans and breakfast goods. Then we headed to the Dole Plantation - we had been looking forward to that on our trip to Hawaii. Overall it was nice. I think the train ride might have been overrated - there was a rush to get tickets when we parked because it is the hot attraction. We walked around and did the maze - which was fun as well. The gift and snack shop definitely make out good on their sales. I bought a bunch of Pineapple themed items: chocolate, plushies, bags, gifts. After that stop we made our way to a Macadamia Nut small shack. We got to try some flavored nuts (make note if anyone has allergies because everything in Hawaii has nuts!), and sample their coffees. Our final stop was at the town of Haleiwa. I realize these tours are designed to help the local businesses, and I am ok with that! They had lots of small shops, restaurants, outdoors BBQ, and our favorite part - shaved ice. It was worth the trip for that. The town was not overwhelmingly crowded - so we didn't feel rushed or overwhelmed. Everyone was feeling tired on our way home. Marvy picked up on that and kept the announcements to a minimum. Overall we left at 7:30am from a clearly marked spot and got back around 2:30pm. It was an enjoyable day and well worth the money.
Disappointed that we were programmed to depart Waikiki v early and then had to ‘drop in’ to a tourist trap for coffee because we were too early for the Plantation. Similarly, on the way back there was another stop at a gift emporium before spending over an hour at some out of the way settlement that seemed to consist of an eclectic collection of eating establishments. We would have preferred to spend an hour longer at the Plantation and even had lunch there.
This tour was perfect for me, with 2 main stops, Dole Plantation and Haleiwa. I was able to take my time to visit and shop at those 2 locations. Driver was friendly and informative during the commute.
Well worth the trip, the pickup point was at our hotel, super easy. Plenty of time at the Dole Plantation to shop, explore and get a treat. The gardens there are spectacular!
Great trip. Coffee farm, shopping, macadamia nut farm, and Dole. Lunch was delicious. The coffee shop was especially nice.
Our bus driver was very knowledgeable, friendly and entertaining! We enjoyed the experience very much!
