O cânion recebe o nome de sua forma de ferradura, definida por dois coulees que deságuam no Kneehill Creek, um afluente do rio Red Deer. Os dois braços do cânion têm aproximadamente 5 km de comprimento cada, estendendo-se da Highway 9 até Kneehill Creek, em duas antigas comunidades mineiras de Dunphy e Gatine. Por sua vez, dá o nome à Formação Horseshoe Canyon.

Um hoodoo é um pináculo de pedra alto e fino feito de arenito com uma rocha dura e densa no topo, como um chapéu. Ou como a placa no parque os descreve: “Pilares erodidos de rocha de arenito macio cobertos com uma tampa resiliente”. Os hoodoos são formados ao longo de centenas de anos através da erosão do congelamento, geada, derretimento e vento. Com o tempo, o arenito se erode em longas formações semelhantes a chaminés que permanecem de pé porque o “chapéu” de rocha dura impede que ele se erode completamente. A rocha dura no topo dos hoodoos protege a camada macia de arenito por baixo dos elementos que criam a forma estranha. Mas uma vez que elas atingem o estágio de serem as chaminés fofas de contos de fadas, elas não duram muito! Diz-se que a cada 100 anos, eles perdem 2-4 pés.
O Sítio Histórico Nacional Atlas Coal Mine é uma mina de carvão inativa em Alberta, Canadá, que operou de 1936 a 1979. É considerada a mina de carvão histórica mais completa do Canadá e abriga a última bebida de carvão de madeira do país e a maior ainda permanente na América do Norte. Foi designado um Recurso Histórico da Província de Alberta em 1989 e um Sítio Histórico Nacional do Canadá em 2002.
O "Maior Dinossauro do Mundo" é o nome de uma atração turística na estrada na forma de um modelo Tyrannosaurus rex

Manny, our driver was amazing! He was friendly and accomodating, and I felt safe as a passenger. He kept the cabin of the clean van cool as it was warm outside. Royal Tyrell Museum was absolutely astonishing- exceeding my high expectations. To me the experience was well worth the money, as it was the best way to feel comfortable and safe to see exhibits I have long looked forward to from the other side of the world.

We stayed in Calgary for a week without renting a car, so arranging a couple private day trips was necessary. We decided to splurge on a private tour...and ABest is a good firm to go with. Our driver, Ali was very chatty, and had a lot of great tips and stories. Only snafu was a miscommunication about stopping at an old ghost town that we had no interest in and have visited similar in our western US trips.

I love dinosaurs so I have always wanted to visit the Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller! I happened to be in Calgary on my way home from a big trip so I decided to see if it was reasonable to fit in a visit to Drumheller while I was there. Thanks to Abest Transport & Tour, it was! Our driver was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area, sorry I didn't have better cold-weather clothing to get out and explore more! My main goal was to the see the Royal Tyrell and it was excellent. There are so many cool specimens there, including a surprising number of intact and mostly intact ones. Those are so rare to find but Alberta is one of the best places for it. If you also love dinosaurs the Royal Tyrell in Drumheller is a must-see.

Amman was very pleasant and he was great when my son thought he lost his wallet, which ended up In between the seats in van, then my car keys were also in my son pocket which fell with wallet but we didn’t realize til after Amman dropped us off at hotel. I called Amman and he went back checked that that evening, he didn’t find, but called the next morning and asked if he could double check and he did find the keys!!!

Or tour guide Aljay was personable and very flexible to accommodate our tour wants and food sensitivities. Enjoyed the stop in the Badlands at Horseshoe Canyon and the later stop to view hoodoos. The Royal Tyrell Museum is excellent.

We visited the horseshoe canyon, hoodoos, Tyrell Museum and many more places all within a day; this was great for us, especially since we had a short stay in Alberta and wanted to see Drumheller and the Badlands. Our guide for the day was amazing! This was by far one of the highlights of our trip. Jef was friendly, knowledgeable and just overall amazing. The tour was catered to our interests which was fantastic for a group of Girl Guides from Ontario! While we there were too many fake dinosaurs (inside joke with Jef) we enjoyed every minute of the trip. We were very grateful he took a detour at our request to hit up McDonalds for some cold beverages and some ice cream on a hot day. We will recommend ABest Transport & Tour Services to everyone.
