We booked the private tour for Moser Glassworks, Jan Becher Museum and Karlovy Vary. To begin with, there was no minivan, but instead a car, as there were 3 people that had booked the tour. There was no free wifi as mentioned online. The tour guide did not speak English, and gave us hand-outs with written information on the different sights. This was not mentioned in the details of the tour. The girl who drove us around did speak English, but was not a tour guide. It was rather disappointing considering that we had excellent tours for all the other places that we visited in the Czech republic. The Moser glassworks factory was not open, and hence, we could not see the actual process of glass blowing. When we arrived in Karlovy Vary, we were given the handouts and a map, and asked to walk around by ourselves and read the information on our own. I don't mind exploring by myself, but we paid to have the tour guide show us the sights. Else, we could have hired a car to drive us around and seen the sights ourselves, and it would have cost us lesser. Thankfully, lunch was not a disappointment, and was good. The Jan Becher museum was good as well, though there was an audio tour, and we pretty much did it all ourselves. We stopped at the Angel mountain on our way back, and though the tour guide was reluctant to make a stop there, we insisted on going up the mountain and seeing the beautiful views from there. A disappointing trip that might have been better if the guide spoke English, or showed some interest in showing us the sights. The places are definitely worth a visit though. Would recommend seeing the sights, but choose another tour.
The Moser Glassworks is a must visit. I have never before been able to go inside a glass works factory amongst the blowers. Here you do and it works. You feel the heat that emanates from the foundries and you watch in amazement at the way the craftsmen work. Pick up the sample blowing rod and you'll appreciate the strength of the workers who blow solid molten balls of glass into amazing shapes. For us jaw dropping and gives you a huge respect for the work that goes into making a glass object. We did not get the VIP tour so missed out on the engraving portion. A big miss and regret The drive from Prague is dead easy. You can stop at the Krusovice Brewery on the way or on return and its easy to visit the town of Kralovy Vary that is just a few miles away.
