Our guide, Anthony, made the experience fabulous! We learned about wines, the culture, the history, and so much more. I'd highly recommend Anthony and Spanish Trails!!!
Our tour guide made our experience wonderful! So knowledgeable- so sweet - if you do this tour you should definitely ask for Rebecca
Rebecca picked us up right on time and we drove to Montserrat. Monterrat was beautiful in the morning with clouds intermittently obscuring parts of the views. Rebecca did a great job explaining a bit of history about the region and the lore of Monserrat and the Black Madonna. We visited the basilica and then listened to the amazing boys choir. We had a very good lunch then headed to wine tasting. On the way, Rebecca described some of the nuances of the region's wine. The wine tasting experience was very well done and the wine was delicious. On the way back, Rebecca gave us a great dinner rec.
Tremendous day out with Rebecca. Very knowledgeable and friendly. The genuine local restaurant experience a particular high point but overall the whole experience was great with no stress involved with finding meeting points etc.
Rebecca was an outstanding host. Knowledgeable about both Catalonia and the wine. Worth every penny to be privately guided through it all - totally relaxing - no stress at all. Authentic restaurant a lovely change from usual tourist traps. Would be delighted to have her as a host / guide again.
This was such a wonderful day tour, made especially so by our guide Jose Luis. We were the only 2 people who signed up so we got a private tour, which I especially enjoyed. Jose picked us up directly from our hotel and drove us out of Barcelona to Montserrat. It really does live up to its name as a, “magic mountain,” with such beautiful bare rock spires which could be interpreted as creatures (think gorilla, elephant, sphinx). The big feature outside of the natural features is a thousand year old monastery, complete with basilica and boys school. All of the man made structures are to support a miraculous Madonna statue supposedly found by some young shepherds and which has survived all this time. Lots of people pray to her for health or other wishes. We had time to climb part of the mountain, walk all around the monastery, including the basilica, time to see the Madonna and touch her orb up close, and to hear the boy’s choir sing. Well worth the half day. After finishing with the choir, Jose drove us to a small town with a well known restaurant for a traditional Spanish lunch, including pan con tomate, a starter (we selected a goat cheese and nut salad and mushroom cannelloni), main course (we chose roast chicken and pork cheeks both served with vegetables), and dessert (cheesecake and turron ice cream) and coffee. After lunch, Jose drove us to a winery for a wine tasting and tour. We arrived back at our hotel by 6:30pm. Jose was especially knowledgeable about nearly anything you’d wish to know about Spain, Barcelona, Catalonia, Montserrat, wines, food, politics, anything. I’d highly recommend both Spanish Trails and Jose if you’re interested in doing a day tour outside Barcelona.
Hi! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your wonderful experience! It's great to hear that you enjoyed Montserrat, it truly is a magic place. We also love to hear that Jose Luis made the tours unforgettable. It would be our pleasure to welcome you back on another adventure in Barcelona soon. Kind regards, Kyona
We had an unforgettable private tour to Montserrat and the Penedès wine region with Mariela from Spanish Trails. Mariela was warm, incredibly knowledgeable, and made the history and culture come alive. We toured the breathtaking monastery, enjoyed a delicious Catalan lunch, and had an amazing private wine tasting at a boutique vineyard—truly a perfect day! We happened to go on St. George’s Day, which made Barcelona’s city traffic nearly impossible—so leave extra time for pickups on major holidays. Also, the famous Boys’ Choir was on break and didn’t perform that day, so definitely check availability before you book if that’s a priority. Even with those hiccups, the tour exceeded all expectations—absolutely recommended!
My family and I went on the Private Montserrat Tour and Boutique Winery Experience with Sam. If you love awe inspiring views, history, and wine—this tour is a must. We had a fantastic day. Sam took great care of us and knows so much about the area and the places we visited. He was absolutely appreciated. You can tell he really enjoys what he does. Lunch at the beautiful local family restaurant was amazing too. We look forward to booking with Spanish Trails again in the future. It’s always a wonderful experience!
We were so happy with this tour. And Samual was knowledgeable, charming and downright funny. Lunch was delicious and Samual helped us choose traditional dishes. I will use this company when I return to Barcelona

We had two great experiences with Spanish Trails tours (Montserrat and Costa Brava). The tours were amazing and very well organized. Anthony was our guide on both tours and he was fantastic! He was very knowledgeable about Barcelona area and the culture, making the quality of the tours outstanding. I highly recommend these tours, and specifically Anthony, if you are in the Barcelona area!
