O Great Meteoron Monastery é o maior e mais antigo de todos. Foi chamado o mosteiro que estava "suspenso no ar" (meteoro), por causa da formação da rocha gigantesca em cima da qual foi construída. O Grande Mosteiro de Meteoro foi fundado por Santo Atanásio, o Meteorito, que foi o primeiro fundador do mosteiro e o organizador do koenovion sistemático. Por esta razão, a fundação deste mosteiro é considerada um ponto de viragem, ou melhor ainda, o início do monastismo organizado na Santa Meteora. Hosios Athanasios nasceu por volta de 1302 na cidade medieval de New Patras, hoje Hypati e seu nome leigo era Andronikos.
O mosteiro sagrado de Varlaam é o segundo maior mosteiro. Está localizado em frente ao Grande Mosteiro de Meteoro e foi fundado em meados do século XIV pelo exercitante Hosios Varlaam. O elegante mosteiro Catholicon foi construído em honra de Agioi Pantes em 1541-42, por dois irmãos de Ioannina, os monges-sacerdotes Hosioi Theophanes e Nectarios the Apsarades. A igreja principal foi decorada em 1548. Baseada em critérios estilísticos, esta magnífica pintura de parede é atribuída ao famoso hagiógrafo de Tebas, Frago Catelano.
O mosteiro da Santíssima Trindade (Agia Triada) é o mais difícil de alcançar, mas quando você chegar ao topo, a vista panorâmica dos arredores é simplesmente cativante! Este mosteiro fica muito perto do Convento de Santo Estêvão e está situado em uma rocha íngreme e magnífica. Já tinha sido organizado Mosteiro desde o ano 1362 como indicado em um documento por Symeon Uressis Palaeologos. Os visitantes têm que seguir um caminho que os direciona inicialmente para o pé da rocha, antes de começarem a subir cerca de 140 degraus.
O Santo Mosteiro de São Nicolau de Anapafsas é o primeiro mosteiro que encontramos em nosso caminho para o Santo Meteora e foi fundado no final do século XIV. Para o nome Anapafsas existem numerosas interpretações duas das quais são as mais populares. A primeira é que o nome Anapafsas foi atribuído por um dos benfeitores do mosteiro, enquanto a segunda explicação tem a ver com a posição do monastério sendo a primeira a ser encontrada no caminho e provavelmente servida aos peregrinos e outros visitantes como um descanso. lugar antes de continuar.

Despite it being a long day (4 hours each way and 14.5 hours overall), I thoroughly recommend doing this trip. The views of the monasteries on top of the rock formations are breathtaking. The guide was informative, the coach comfortable and the lunch was good.

This tour was everything we needed. Comfortable transportation, safe driver and excellent guide. Plenty of stops and time to take wonderful photo oppertunities. Lunch and Dinner breaks were adequate, although the food and service was mediocre, and to be expected when dealing with large coach numbers, throughput was the main objective of the restaurant. Ordering the food ahead of time was seamless. 10 hours of driving time to consider when booking this trip but the endpoint was worth the drive.

Very organised from the beginning. Easy meeting spot. Comfortable bus. Great place to stop for bathroom and snacks. Guide in Meteora was awesome. Well done Dimitris!! Dinner at Camino was beautiful!! Sunset over the beach. Pre ordering was an easy service, much recommended. Would definitely recommend the day. Get your walking shoes on. Walk up to first monastery was intense!

Experience was excellent, length of visit was appropriate and comfortable. crowd size was suitable to our needs, Katarina was excellent in her interactions with all of us, and she was knowledgable about rock formation, caves and monsteries.
