O sítio arqueológico de Joya de Cerén é o único herritage mundial em El Salvador, o que o torna único na Mesoamérica. Joya de Cerén foi uma das aldeias maias que se localizaram no vale de Zapotitán quando no século VII dC. entrou em erupção o vulcão Loma Caldera eo local foi coberto por cinzas vulcânicas do evento eruptivo, preservando assim as construções de terra e os artefatos do lugar, aqui você pode ver a vida diária dos Maias.
Chalchuapa foi um lugar onde a influência de Copán veio, assim como a influência teotihuacana e tolteca. Compreende uma série de estruturas que foram palco de um importante e sofisticado assentamento maia que existiu por volta de 100 e 1200 dC. Após uma longa ocupação, cujo maior desenvolvimento corresponde ao horizonte clássico (250 a 900 d.C.), Tazumal foi definitivamente abandonado por volta de 1200 dC.

Really a great tour of Joya de Ceren, Tazumal, and a nice lunch stop at Coatepeque! Josue was really knowledgeable throughout the tour, and shared a lot of historical information about the Mayan culture, history, and lifestyle. I also enjoyed hearing learning about the history of and life in modern El Salvador. Highly recommend!
