Families participated in the experience It was a very valuable experience to be able to compare 10 different types of matcha from different production areas. Honestly, I was very surprised because I didn't expect the taste, aroma and aftertaste to be so different from matcha. Also, I learned not only the characteristics of each production area but also the cultivation method and processing method in detail from the former tea farmer, which I, as a Japanese, did not know about, so I learned a lot. Until now, I have rarely had the opportunity to make matcha myself, but thanks to the careful instruction, even I, a beginner, was happy to make it clean. In addition, there were four different matcha lattes to drink, and it was a great point to find a matcha for your favorite latte while enjoying each individuality. I think it is a content that can be enjoyed not only by those who like matcha but also those who don't usually drink much matcha. It was delicious and I learned a lot, and it all happened so quickly. This is an experience I would definitely recommend in Tokyo. It was a wonderful time to be back.
We learned so much about matcha and how it's made. Very interesting information. Such a unique experience to be able to taste so many different types of matcha.
If you want to truly understand matcha, this is the experience you cannot miss. The couple who run this class are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about every aspect of matcha—from cultivation to preparation and tasting. They answer every question with care, and by the end of the class, your appreciation and understanding of matcha will grow exponentially. We had so much fun making our own matcha and trying every variety in their matcha flight—it’s truly an unforgettable, hands-on experience. Tasting matcha from multiple regions, each with its own unique flavor profile, is something rare that you won’t find anywhere else. Beyond their expertise, they are incredibly friendly and welcoming, creating a warm and personal experience that feels like learning from friends rather than just instructors. Whether you’re a matcha enthusiast or simply curious, this class is an unforgettable journey into the heart of Japan’s matcha culture. Highly recommended!
If you love matcha then you will definitely love this experience. However, even if you're undecided about matcha this is a great way to not only explore the different types and flavour profiles, but to also understand more about it's history and the process of making matcha- from planting all the way to brewing. You will get to sample so many types of matcha that this experience is definitely value for money. Chisei is extremely knowledgeable about all things matcha and made learning about it interesting. I'm not a matcha lover but I still really enjoyed this experience.
It was a great experience and well worth the money! We were taught about the preparation, history and cultivation of matcha and got to try 8 types of matcha, 3 matcha lattes and handmade matcha sweets! Chisei was very approachable and clearly very knowledgable and passionate which made the experience so special!
What a wonderful way to end my trip to Japan! I learnt so much about Matcha.. right from the growing stage 🍃through to mastering the technique of creating a delicious warm cup of matcha! 🍵 now I have a new appreciation of all things Matcha. This husband & wife duo shared so much knowledge & skill and made delicious treats to accompany the matcha tasting experience. Would definitely recommend! Oh & you can purchase matcha making items there which I thought were cheaper than the tourist shops!
For tea lovers, this is definitely a must-have experience. The different types of matcha - even the "lower-grade" ones - were a world away from what we're familiar with in Canada. I'm someone who's very sensitive to bitterness and I was able to find something to love about each of the different teas we were provided. I never knew matcha could be smoky! The education on tea is a lot more extensive than we expected, and pleasantly so. Not a moment of it was boring, and you can really tell that Chisei knows his stuff. He was able to answer any questions and provide thorough knowledge that we were able to apply over the course of the rest of our trip and back home. His instructions for matcha making were also clear and encouraging. Alongside the matcha, we were provided with a taste of sencha, genmaicha, houjicha, and some homemade cookies. At the end of the event we were able to spend some time in the shop buying souvenirs, including matcha-making gear and tea to bring home. It's definitely best to do this in the morning instead of having coffee, but after a bit of breakfast - I definitely had enough caffeine to last me through the day. Chisei and Rina are kind and generous hosts, and far too humble. What they've built is really amazing, and I felt lucky to be able to experience it! Highly recommend! I wish I lived in Tokyo so I could come back whenever I wanted.
It was very fun to learn about green tea from planting to tea cup from an actual tea farmer. I would recommend this class to anyone that enjoys tea. Sampling all the different types of matcha was very unique and fun, and learning the correct technique to make matcha was a great experience. The tea cookies were a delicious treat too!
This was a lovely experience at a tea bar with Chisei, Rina, and their crew. I was so surprised by all of the matcha as it was quite different than the ones available in western stores. You will also notice major differences between each example you drink. While Chisei will explain to you everything you need to know about green tea and matcha, if you are curious, please do ask more questions, as I did. Chisei is extremely knowledgeable and still very involved in the world of tea. You will not be disappointed. We ended up talking tea for a while after the tasting. Great, passionate people who love what they do. You can enjoy Tokyo for the lights, sights and sounds - but its soul is in the food, the drink and the people you share these with.
Nabeel-san Thank you for writing a review. We are very happy that you enjoyed our experience. Once I start talking about tea, I can't finish it at all in an hour and a half. When people ask questions like you, I get to talk more and it's fun. Also, thank you for telling us about Indian tea. Please come visit us from Vancouver to Tokyo again! Chisei
Fun, in-depth, immersive learning experience in tea farming/harvesting, Types of tea, tasting of teas from multiple areas for comparison. Leaders have personal connections with farmers. Excellent materials provided for following along, learning and evaluating your tea tasting. You then make your own matcha tea from type you liked the most. Teas for sale as well! Highly recommend!
Thank you for coming our tour from Hawaii. I was so happy, because you really enjoy matcha tasting infront of me. If you have some question, please ask me whennever! Thank you! Chisei
