Jose was really fun and informative. We had a large group to manage and we still got in all our stops plus a bit of history and culture wrapped up in it. I’m vegetarian and everywhere we went, I had food choices. 😊
I enjoyed this tour so much that I ended up doing it twice! Every stop felt authentic, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was fantastic. Hili Travel has become my go-to for food tours—I loved them
I had already done a tour with Hili Travel in Venice, so I was curious to try them again in Madrid—and they didn’t disappoint. The food was fresh, genuinely local and full of character, with the same authentic feel I loved in Venice. It’s so cool to find that same quality in two completely different destinations. Rome is next on my list!
Food was terrific. The churros with the chocolate for dipping were our favorite. Jose, our guide, was very knowledgeable and shared some interesting stories about the food and locations.
Jose’s had so much knowledge of the area and the food in Madrid. The market was amazing and everything we tried was great. Loved the variety of places and the value. I would highly recommend this tour.
Great guide who was friendly but very knowledgable. Excellent opportunity to try different food and drinks, which wouldn’t have been done without this experience. thank you Jose
Fantastic guide Jose took us through the market where we tried tasty dishes and local wine. Outside the market we had Calamare sandwich and chirros and finished with nougat. Jose shared lots of local information with us and answered all our questions. We had a great afternoon.
Highly recommend! Jose has a lot of knowledge and is kind and patient. I really enjoyed this tour and the food was delicious!
The tour was just as described and a wonderful way to learn a little history and culture while tasting and experiencing the food. José was an experienced and knowledgeable guide who was enthusiastic about his culture and food. He was eager to get my perspectives and opinions on the foods and was genuinely happy when I liked the tasting. It was a terrific introduction to the food and drink in Madrid and the market experience, too. I wish I could have done more but I did this tour while on a 7-hour layover at the airport! I easily had time to get to the tour and back. A great way to spend my time. What to know: it is a walking tour, but the distance is not bad. You get to make some decisions (such as the topping on your pintxo). Go with and open mind and palette and willingness to learn.
San Miguel Market is a must-visit. Under a magnificent metal structure (Halle Parisienne style), the traders offer a set of incredible gastronomic specialties very specific to the Region: tapas, cone of cut ham, paella and derivatives, fish, fries, seafood, fruit, cakes, wine, sangria, etc... to be enjoyed on site or to take away. Seats are expensive, rather standing but free up fairly quickly. Little flat the prices! Tapas are about 2 euros each. Ham and other dishes rather around 15/20 euros in small quantities. The value for money is not very good but the place is incredible! I strongly advise him! You should avoid 14h! go instead in the late morning to move more easily in the aisles.
