O nome da praça mudou ao longo do tempo. Tem sido conhecida como "Plaza del Arrabal", "Plaza de la Constitución", "Plaza Real", "Plaza de la República" e agora "Plaza Mayor". Esses nomes refletem eventos, história e reinado na história Espanhol. "Plaza del Arrabal" foi o nome original do atual "Plaza Mayor". A "Plaza del Arrabal" foi uma vez o local do Marketplace mais popular até o final do século 15. Após a Constituição de 1812, todas as grandes praças da Espanha foram renomeadas "Plaza de la Constitución". Também teve esse nome de 1820 a 1823, 1833 a 1835, 1840 a 1843, e 1876 a 1922. Quando o rei Borbón foi restaurado em 1814, tornou-se conhecida como a "Plaza Real". Em 1873, o nome mudou para "Plaça da República". No final da Guerra Civil Espanhola a praça recebeu seu nome atual de "Plaza Mayor".
Mais de 100 anos se passaram desde que o Mercado de San Miguel abriu suas portas como um mercado de alimentos por atacado. Hoje, este edifício histórico destaca-se como um dos principais mercados gastronômicos do mundo. Permite que os visitantes experimentem a essência e os sabores mais significativos de cada canto da Espanha. Desde o melhor jam ibérico e os peixes e mariscos mais frescos trazidos diariamente da Galiza, até pratos de arroz mediterrâneos e os mais exquisitos queijos da Castela, Astúrias e País Basco – no Mercado de San Miguel, você encontrará todos os destaques da cozinha Espanhola. Espalhados por mais de 20 stands, o denominador comum aqui é um compromisso com tapas e pratos de pub de alta qualidade.
Esta pequena rua é uma das duas praças mais encantadoras de Madrid: Conde de Miranda e Vila. E pode se orgulhar de albergar um espaço protegido pelo ambiente histórico e artístico que o rodeia: na esquina da Plaza de la Vila está a Torre de los Lujanes (pertencente ao século XV). Nessa mesma parte da rua estão também a Royal Maritense Economic Society of Friends of the Country, a antiga Biblioteca Municipal de Jornal e a Igreja de Corpus Christi, onde está localizado o Convento de Las Carboneras, uma vez que a congregação mantém uma imagem da Conceição Imaculada encontrada em um forno de carvão e ao qual vários milagres são atribuídos milagros.
Foi um dos principais centros medievais de Madrid, já que três ruas começam a partir dele, correspondendo ao layout original da cidade: Codo, Cordón e Madrid. Nas suas periferias estão as fachadas principais de três edifícios de alto valor histórico-artístico, construídos em séculos diferentes. A mais antiga é a Casa y Torre de los Lujanes (século XV), no estilo gótico-Mudejar, localizada no lado leste da Praça. Esta é agora a sede da Academia de Moral e Ciências Políticas.
O Palácio Real de Madrid é a residência oficial do Rei de Espanha; no entanto, os reis atuais não vivem nele, mas no Palácio Zarzuela, por isso é usado para cerimônias estatais e atos solenes. Agora é quando a nossa visita realmente começa. Embora o projeto original de Juvarra nunca tenha sido realizado, o Palácio Real de Madrid pode se orgulhar de ser o maior palácio habitado da Europa. E dizemos habitada porque, embora a Família Real Espanhola não resida nela, é ainda o lugar onde eles têm sua residência oficial. Como comentámos anteriormente, o edifício, cujas obras duraram até 1764 quando Carlos III morou nele pela primeira vez, é composto por 135.000 metros quadrados e 3.418 quartos, destacando também suas 870 janelas, 240 varandas ou as 44 escadas que possui.

We arrived to get our tickets from the address supplied to us and the ticket office had moved. There was no notice on the door of the change of address. Consequently we missed the tour. Very disappointing. They had my phone number yet never rung to ask if we needed assistance finding them. Will never use this provider again.
First the meeting point's address was wrong and the whole group was not informed that the Fun&Tickets company has changed the place..thanks to the hospitality of a random guy from the place nearby we were told the new address When arrived, none of the stuff even apologised... The short walk where we were supposed to learn about Madrid was just a walk to the castle without any promised interesting stories as it was said in the tour description The castle walk was unsatisfactory as well- random information was provided in an english with such strong spanish accent that it was difficult to follow Not recommeded
At first we thought we were only visiting the royal palace, but in reality, before arriving there, we had the pleasure of seeing and learning about other parts of the city that were also linked to royal history. Federico was a professional and friendly guide who explained everything to us in great detail.

At first I was disappointed we were walking “again on another tour”. I thought we were on a tour bus as my hubby had booked it but with Beatrice, soon I forgot I was walking and exploring in the August heat. I was transported into another time of Madrid and was in my element of history. She was courteous, professional and clearly spoke English. She didn’t rush us and took care to show us many key points of interest during our tour (including brief quizzes) while visiting the Royal Spanish palace. I would recommend her as a guide to anyone.
