Frankly, I wasn't sure what to expect. I knew a group of us had free time before our larger group tour began. Sarin picked us up at our hotel in a very nice vehicle. We ventured to a local market, a Buddhist Temple and then the village where we took 2 different boats to explore life on the lake. Sarin was very knowledgeable. We had so many questions regarding living on a lake. He was easy to understand, responsive to the barrage of questions and always enhanced the discussion. Sarin also enlightened us about Buddihsm. I now feel more informed. Thank you Sarin for sharing your life, your country and your religion with the six of us.
Excellent, authentic experience of life on the lake. We were lucky as the water was extremely high which made it feel even more adventurous. Our guide was very kind and informative and answered our question’s. He also made a great restaurant reservation. Thank you Saro for your time.
This was one of the best tours I’ve ever taken in Cambodia! Our guide was actually born and raised in the floating village itself, so he knew everyone and everything about life on the water. His stories and insights made the experience feel incredibly personal and real — and he spoke perfect English, which made everything easy to understand and so much more enjoyable. It was a private tour, yet priced the same as many large group tours I’d seen advertised — incredible value! Everything was included: a big boat ride across the lake, a peaceful small boat trip through the mangroves, and plenty of time to explore and interact with the locals in the floating village. If you’re looking for something authentic, well-organized, and genuinely meaningful — don’t hesitate to book this tour. It’s the real deal!
We stayed with Dan and he was a fantastic guide! Too good to explain to us beyond the village and the lake so dynamic of Cambodia s culture, history and society with a pronunciation and linguistic ability of English really almost native. Very good.
Seeing the mangroves on a little boat and later the sunset was amazing! Our tour guide was also very nice and helpful, plus he truly tried to make our experience memorable.
Sarin is an amazing guide. And as a person who grew up in a floating village, he knows great stories to tell and knows everything about it. Really great tour. Even in the dry season, when the village isn't really floating yet.
Our guide, Mr Suddan (sic) was knowledgable and humourous and made the tour enjoyable. The local market tour was an eye-opener but the noonday heat was a bit overpowering. Unfortunately the rainy season had barely started during our tour so there was no floating village - we did get to see the houses built on stilts and how the locals chillaxed in the ubiquitous hammocks in the shady nooks beneath their houses. Boat ride to Tongle Sap lake was fun, we rode on a motorised wooden boat, chugging our way to the floating restaurants on the churning lake the colour of milk tea. Wouldn't mind coming back at the right time to explore the floating village. Overall the guide was really great!
TAKE THIS TOUR!!! At this time of the year the water level is too low so that neither the floating village nor the mangrove forest are under water. But it's very impressive to see the houses of the village on their stilts. The boat trip out to a restaurant on the lake is impressive, too. And the visite of a countryside pagoda with the monks and their many pets. Incredible, how all these people live. It all builds up the wish to come back one day to see it all flooded. BUT THE BEST about it was our guide Sarin. He grew up in a floating village, told us so many stories and gave us insights in the lives of the local people. He's a great storyteller, very friendly and open minded. It was a great pleasure to ride with him and the whole trip was simply mindblowing.
People mentioned low level of water in September but we didn't have a problem with that. The road to there was a bit of a problem though because it was bumpy and flooded after the rain. Highly recommend you take the small boat to the flooded village. You will be surrounded by water and trees and the sense of calmness. The sunset on Tonle Sap was beautiful and it was a great feeling when you were on an actual lake which felt like an ocean.
Thank you so much for your review of the tour of Kompong Phluk with The Tonle Sap Experience. We are really glad to see you had a good experience and enjoyed the calmness of the flooded forest and greatness of the Tonle Sap Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. Thank you again for joining The Tonle Sap Experience
