I need to clarify that my review is based on the first 20 minutes of the tour, because I found the start of this tour so strange and unwelcoming - with such confusing behavior, that when the van made a stop at Freedom Square, I got off the van, and told them that I did not want to go. I did NOT want a refund or anything, I just did not want to go on this tour. I am confused by the other reviews, which is why I booked this tour. When i got to the office at the meeting location and showed my ticket, a grumpy man told me to go to van 100. I saw a van with those numbers on the license plate, and got in and took a seat. Others came on board and took their seats, and as has been my experience on many other tours, I was expecting the tour guide, to say something, to say hello, to introduce himself/herself etc. But, noone said anything, I had no idea who the tour guide even was at this point... So, eventually a driver got behind the wheel and started driving the van, still without a word to anyone. I am genuinely not exaggerating, noone even said hi, or introduced himself -nothing - the van simply started moving, and I found that so strange (i mean a tour with a guide that does not even say hi is so unprofessional and rude) as a matter of fact, at this point i did not even know which person was the tour guide, or even if this was the right van!? Because, who starts a tour without even saying ONE word to the passengers. As the van started moving i got concerned that maybe I had gotten onto the wrong van, that somehow I had gotten on a van mid trip or something - so, i asked the couple sitting near me, if they had also booked the Kakheti English speaking tour, because noone had said anything, no tour guide had introduced himself, and at that point no one had spoken a word not just to me, but to the group at large... The lady said "I know normally they say something" she said that she had also booked the English speaking Kakheti tour, but it was strange that noone had said anything..... First of all, that is simply rude - but, as a solo traveler, this also starts to feel uncomfortable!! And, I am an avid solo traveler, and this behavior was so odd, as I have NEVER seen this on other tours (usually it is the opposite, guides can sometimes over explain) - this made it feel even more uncomfortable. Finally the van stopped at Freedom Square, and a man who was sitting in one of the first seats got off the van and talked to a couple and guided them to get on board, and that is when I figured out that this must the the tour guide!! Up until that point I had thought he was another passenger, since he had not said a single word to the group as of yet!!! In that moment I decided that I simply did not want to spend the day with a tour, and tour guide who were this rude (in my opinion) and this inattentive. So, I got out of the van and told them that I did not want to continue with the tour, I did NOT want a refund or anything, I just did not want to go. So, this gentleman whose voice I finally heard, said why do you want to leave? I have to call the office... etc. I said I don't think this tour is a good match for me - you guys have not said one word to us, not even a hello.... NOTHING. That i had asked another passenger if they also had the same English tour booked, to be sure i was even in the right van. That I did not even know that he was the tour guide until that moment!!! Who starts a day trip without even saying hello, or introducing himself, and telling us the plan? His answer: Well didn't the guy in the office tell you which van to go to? If a grown man, a tour guide, and a whole team cannot understand the need to say hello, to introduce themselves, to give the plan.... and why failing to do so feels unwelcoming, unorganized, and even feels unsafe to the solo traveler (who does not speak the main language of that country) then I have nothing to add, and frankly, I became more sure that I did NOT want to go on this tour with his answer. And, I said (not even angry) listen no problem, I just don't want to go, no worries.... He said well I was waiting to pick up everyone first, and then say hello - Really? How am I supposed to know who the tour guide is، or even if this is the right van i'm on, or that this is the right English speaking tour i booked! I mean other tour guides in my experience actually do a lot more than just saying hi, they introduce themselves, give an idea of the plan (hey we're going to pick up a few other people first)....they ask names, help the group feel at ease, give a bit of info etc. Forget making passengers feel at ease, I think a hello and an introduction is quite basic common curtesy - if nothing else, at least for politeness and safety!
We were with our friends group on the excursion. It was about 10 hours. Everything was great. Wine tasting, bread and cheese. Pasta is the best guide
