My 13 y/o and I did this excursion and had a blast! Given the heat, we decided to skip the last leg of hiking as that seemed to be a bit too much for my son. He was engaged for 4 hrs and that was good enough for me! Marco, our guide, was knowledgeable, conversational and kind. We learned so many new things and enjoyed some fruit and almonds from the trees along the way. Our guide knew people in the remote villages and we had the opportunity to connect with them. The only downside is that we had anticipated the lavender field being in bloom. Given it was all harvested in July and we were there in August, we weren’t able to see the fields in the way we anticipated. That being said, even without that visual component, the tour and experience far exceeded our expectations and I would highly recommend to anyone with a hunger to learn about and experience the region’s agricultural history -hands on- as long as there is the ability to walk on a slightly rocky trail ( uphill and down) for a minimum of 3+ hrs.
Best of all tours at Hvar. The tour guide, Marko was very informative and smart. I would recommend bringing a backpack because there are essential oils to buy during the tour.
A great way to explore the island off the beaten track, through the lavender fields, through atmospheric abandoned villages and along the coastline back to Hvar. We walked about 15km and I’d classify most of the hike as easy to moderate. Our guide Mario was sensational! So well informed, very patient and loved a good chat:) Thoroughly recommended hike!
Our tour guide Marco was very kind and knowledgeable! Highly recommend this tour when visiting the island of Hvar!
Magical walk from high in Hvar (they drove is to the start) to the sea. Saw lavender and herbs growing in the wild, ate walnuts, fruit from the strawberry tree and fruits from the carob tree. Marco was a fantastic and relaxed guide and knowledgeable about all the local fauna and history. Easily manageable, this is a must for anyone who wants to do more than just sample the food, drink and views that Hvar town has to offer. A truly inspiring walk with a chilled out host, cheers Marco!
I can’t say enough good things about Marko, our guide for this tour. We were expecting to visit a lavender farm but this adventure really is more of a hike. We passed through some small hillside villages in Hvar, including one that was totally abandoned (save for a lovely restaurant/bar where we cooled off and had a drink). Definitely be aware that this is a more strenuous hike, and plan your footwear and hydration needs accordingly. I would do it again, especially for Marko’s expertise and insights on history and local plant life.
A short ride from town took us to an island high spot where we started our easy hike through rock-walled fields, abandoned villages and quaint konobas (open-air tavernas). Our guide Marco pointed out the many flowers (lavender), herbs (rosemary, dill, oregano) and aromatic plants that made each breath feel like aromatic therapy! NOTE: Be sure to wear hiking/closed shoes!
Marko was a great guide. Marko was very knowledgeable about the area and plants. Very informative hike. Beautiful views.
Marco was the best tour guide we could have wished for. He was knowledgeable educated respectful caring and so warm And friendly Nothing was too much trouble. So grateful to have had this experience it was truly amazing. Thank you thank you
Fantastic hiking tour of Hvar's countryside! There was just me and my husband and our guide Josko on our tour hence was very friendly and interesting, without having to slow down for a large group of people. The lavender was beautiful but the trip was much more than this. Josko was a very friendly, interesting and informative guide. He told us about different flowers and herbs and their uses, also about the old villages and about the history of Hvar and Croatia. At the end of the hike we visited a lovely beach for a very refreshing swim
