Nice experience; the guide Chaolu was always very helpful. He allowed us to choose the hotel where to stay; we chose the Shangri-La Baotou. The kids had a lot of fun in the desert; with the VIP ticket, they were able to drive the quad, take a camel ride, go sandboarding, etc. Very touristy but fun. We greatly appreciated the prairie and the night in the yurt. Chaolu always took us to restaurants with very good, abundant, and inexpensive local food.... And upon request, NOT SPICY!
An extremely positive experience. Just finished 3 day tour of Inner Mongolia, leaving from Hohhut. We were 2 adults, 3 smaller children. Transportation - Was more than enough space in the minivan (we had carry-on bags and backpacks), and the car was in good shape with A/C. Guide - Mr Chaolu is very (very!) friendly, calm, and has a good positive attitude. Speaks good English and was able to provide good overviews of the areas we visited and act as an interpreter on our behalf. Overall made good decisions, he defers backs to the travelers for key choices, and he is flexible. Accommodation - we had a mix of “nature” yurt far out in the grasslands (very nice / scenic) and another one that was more “modern” (a fun experience for one night to see what a locals “resort” is like) Activities - well arranged, the Horse show was great and the kids got to do proper horseback riding as well at a reputable location. Also were able to do pit stops for grabbing groceries and snacks along the way. Food - pretty positive experiences on the restaurants / family homes we ate at, and he was pretty clear on expectations (eg simple/basic vs deluxe big meat dishes etc) Would definitely travel with him again, the kids loved him and we always felt safe and well taken care of. Highly recommend.
