Udawalawe é uma pequena cidade localizada na parte sul do distrito de Ratnapura, no Sri Lanka. Está situado perto da fronteira do distrito com o distrito de Hambantota e o distrito de Monaragala.
O Parque Nacional de Udawalawe é uma reserva de vida selvagem que cobre quase 120 milhas quadradas de terra com várias formações geológicas. Fundado em 30 de junho de 1972, o parque fica na fronteira das províncias de Sabaragamuwa e Uva, no Sri Lanka. Como tal, consiste principalmente de planícies, pastagens, florestas e pântanos - enquanto é delimitada por montanhas altas ao longo da fronteira norte. Um grande rio, o Walawe e muitos de seus afluentes passam pelo parque, fornecendo água suficiente para a vida selvagem. A precipitação anual no Parque Nacional de Udawalawe é de cerca de 1500 milímetros, e a temperatura média permanece em confortáveis 27° - 28° Centígrados (81°-82°F). O parque tem mais de 94 espécies de plantas, 21 espécies de peixes, 12 espécies de anfíbios, mais de 30 espécies de répteis, mais de 180 espécies de aves (33 das quais migratórias), 43 espécies de mamíferos e 135 espécies de borboletas.

I booked a tour with Lahiru Prasad, I got his contact from the official park website (+94 76 272 6799). It was easy to get in touch with him via Whatsapp. The tour itself was just amazing. We got picked up at our hotel at 5:30 am and were one of the first jeeps in the park. It didnt take us long to spot our first elephant and it was such a great experience. Throughout the tour Lahiru pointed out animals to us and made sure we got to see lots of elephants without getting to close to the animals instead he stopped a distance away and let them come towards us if they choose to. He provided us with lots of insights about elephants but also other animals and the nature in general. We were highly satisfied and would recommend booking the tour with him to anyone. Fantastic car, driver and experience from start to finish. Our visit to the park was much very relaxed and done at a calm and enjoyable pace. When we came across the elephants our driver held back from some of the crowds and we appreciated that approach to these beautiful animals. He knew just where to park up so as to observe them and almost predict where they would move towards. We saw a number of different birds and reptiles too that the driver talked to us about along the way, and was in no hurry to move on, which allowed us to take everything in. Thank you.

Overall really good. We saw a range of animals (elephant, crocodile, mongoose, monitor lizard, wild water buffalo etc). The driver was flexible and seemed to know his stuff. The only downside is that the opportunity to hire an "extra" guide was sprung on us at the park entrance which we didn't do but might have if we had been given information in advance.

We did a morning safari here and it was amazing. We had the best guide (Lahiru Prasad) who was very knowledge about the park, and all the animals, and made sure we saw a huge variety of wildlife. Highly recommend doing a safari with him here! You can contact him on +94 76 272 6799
For us who have never done a safari in Africa, we enjoyed this nearly 3 hour walk in Udawalawe Park. Many elephants, including adorable babies, some crocodiles seen from afar, buffaloes, some deer, many peacocks, birds that the guide, with his sharp vision, sees from afar.

Lahiru was a fantastic guide—knowledgeable, attentive, and especially great at spotting and identifying a wide variety of birds. The highlight, of course, was the elephants—we saw plenty of them in their natural habitat. The babies!! So cute! We also spotted other wildlife, including lizards, water buffalo, and deer. He is super responsible guide and will be on time and maximize your experience to make his customers happy! We were transiting to another city and Lahiru helped to store the bags securely during the safari and helped to get transport after it ended!
