A challenging trail, but with the support and accompaniment of guides it is feasible to be done.
Our tour guide got drunk on the way up and delayed our hike to fuego as he left all the work to the other tour guide to cook dinner for everyone and find another tour guide to take care of the group whilst he took us to fuego. By that time the clouds had moved in and all the groups we passed had amazing views of the volcano erupting up close but we missed it. Although we saw good eruptions from base camp and a good sunrise the bottom line was why was our tour guide drunk on the job.
The two guides had prepared a good meal and it was foggy on the current evening, but they were professional enough to show us the erupting volcano. They were also responsible. The headlights died. They came down specially to pick us up. Escorted us up the mountain together. It was a wonderful experience.
Joshua and Carlos are amazing. Enjoyed the food and the view. They are very experienced guides
Chero was a very good and responsible tour guide and contact with me. I broke my ankle right before the tour day. He gave me a lot of advices to help me get better. I can finally made it to the volcano fuego! It was an amazing experience for me.
It was a challenging experience for those who like the wonders of nature. The road to the campsite on the slope of the Acatenango Volcano is exhausting, but at the end it gives incredible satisfaction when looking at the view of the Volcano of Fire and a little away the Volcano of Water. The route to the Volcano of Fire was very demanding and very patient, but the guides always encouraged the journey. I want to thank Walter (El Che), Franklin, Maynor and Rogelio for always being willing to support me throughout the journey.
This was without a doubt one of the best experiences of my life, largely thanks to our incredible guides, Joshua and Carlos. We chose the 4x4 option, which I highly recommend as it saves energy for the hikes around Acatenango Volcano and Volcán de Fuego. If you’re lucky enough to ride in the back of the pickup, it’s a fun bonus, just make sure to hold on tight! After the 4x4 ride, we hiked about an hour to basecamp, where Joshua had prepared a fantastic lunch. In the evening, we did the Fuego hike (not included in the price), and it was absolutely worth it, honestly a must-do. Watching the sunset and then staying to see the lava eruptions in the dark was unforgettable. It gets very cold, though, so bring more layers than you think you’ll need… and then a bit more 🥶 On the way back, I struggled with altitude sickness, which made the hike really tough. Carlos was amazing, patient, supportive, and even saved me with altitude sickness medication. Back at basecamp, Joshua once again delivered an incredible meal, this time spaghetti bolognese with red wine. The cabins were cozy and surprisingly warm, making for a great night’s sleep. The next morning, we had planned to hike for sunrise at Acatenango, but due to rain we decided to stay at camp. Breakfast was simple but really enjoyable. Overall, I have absolutely nothing to complain about, the entire trip exceeded expectations. I highly recommend this experience. The guides were kind, fun, professional, and genuinely made the trip unforgettable.
Our Acatenango & Fuego volcano trip was an unforgettable experience and very well organized from start to finish. We were driven up by pickup 4x4 to the parking area, which made the beginning easy, and from there the short hike to base camp was both scenic and enjoyable. The views were incredible, and seeing Fuego erupt was something we will never forget. A special thanks to Churros for the fantastic food and excellent driving, both were outstanding. Carlos was also a wonderful companion throughout the trip: friendly, helpful, and great to be around. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Guatemala and looking for a truly memorable adventure.
We had such an incredible experience on this tour. Joshua is amazing—his cooking was honestly one of the highlights, so delicious and thoughtful. Carlos is such a sincere and kind person, and the whole team really takes care of you throughout the entire trip, always making sure everyone is safe, comfortable, and having a great time. You can really tell they care about their guests and go above and beyond to make the experience special. We also heard from friends that other groups can be quite large and involve a lot of waiting, so we’re especially glad we chose this team—it felt much more personal and smooth. Highly recommend!
Joshua was an excellent guide. He had all the details under control and managed to have an excellent experience in Acatenango
