This was an experience of a lifetime that my grandson and I shared. All the staff and helicopter pilot were great and friendly. Loved it!!
We booked the Juneau Helicopter and Dog sledding with added glacier landing tour thru Viator with Coastal Helicopters. They picked us up in town near the Goldbelt Tram, drove us to the airport where they fitted us with snow boots to go over our own shoes and stored any items we had in a locked box. We had our own private helicopter with 3 of us (one toddler) plus the pilot. We had the most amazing weather that day, once we got on the sleds at the dog camp it was sunny & blue skies! The dog mushing was so much fun and then we got to visit some of the dogs while waiting for our helicopter to return. We then took a short trip to land on the glacier, just us and got to spend around 15 minutes or so. Truly something to experience at least once! It's not inexpensive but it was incredible and absolutely worth it! Felt very safe with our Pilot and the staff at the dog camp were great as well. My only feedback would be that the pick up could have been a tad bit more organized in the early AM at the tram but they are very easy to spot in their bright jackets. We took a free shuttle from our cruise to the pick up spot and they picked us up from there with a driver to and from the airport and he was very friendly as well. This tour was well worth the money and I would consider doing again!

Such an awesome experience. The helicopter ride was so cool and the dog sledding was a blast. I was a little sad there weren’t any puppies to pet, but that was not part of the description, just wishful thinking on my part. I would recommend a ski jacket, waterproof boots, and ski gloves for sure. Everyone was so nice and welcoming! It is expensive, but definitely a bucket list must!
Unfortunately we didn’t get to do this experience due to bad weather. We fully understand this happens. However - communication was poor. It was fairly obvious from the weather and the forecast that this trip would not proceed but we were told to still check in at allotted time - to stand in the rain - no cover provided. An earlier decision and better communication is needed - especially at the price paid!
Our pilot going up was okay, but not spectacular. The mushers camp and dogsledding were awesome. Ayanna(sp), our musher, was a sweetheart. All the kids at the camp were informative and friendly. A special treat was meeting a retired Iditarod sled dog. The return pilot, from Denmark or Sweden maybe, I think Tim was his name, was awesome as well. Informative and personable.
Awesome it was great from starting to finish. The glacier was especially awesome. All we very helpful dogs were awesome
Is it worth the money? Yes, yes and yes! So fun to fly to the dog camp, ride the dog sled around the glacier for about 1 1/2 miles, pet the dogs and then land on a different part of the Hubbard glacier!
Unfortunately the dog sledding portion of our experience was canceled due to visibility issues at the camp. We weren’t made aware of this until we were loaded up on the van. If we had been made aware sooner, we probably would have looked for another excursion when we reached port in Juneau. Given the time of day, we still opted to do the glacier landing portion of the tour and it was great. Our pilot was Caleb and he was excellent. Our primary reason for booking this experience was the dog sledding portion. As I understood, this portion gets canceled 40% of the time from what we overheard from staff. Be prepared for changes in the itinerary due to weather.
I went in mid-May so weather ended up being not great for the helicopter to make it up to the dogsledding portion and so the team contacted me and asked if I still wanted to continue with the glacier portion prior to pick-up. I said yes because this would be my first helicopter ride and glacier walk. Alex, our tour guide, did an amazing job of getting us safely to the glacier as well as educating us throughout the trip. I had a blast and even though I was refunded a portion because of the dogsledding cancellation, I will definitely be back and hopefully get to try the dogsledding again!
