This was a tremendous opportunity to see parts of Australia that would have been more challenging (and less interesting) to explore on our own. As advertised, the "Reverse Itinerary" was a good strategy to avoid crowds. Pete was our guide. He was equal parts informative and entertaining – valuable traits for a tour of nearly 12 hours. As a lifelong Melbourne resident, Pete's pride, enthusiasm, and experience were inspiring. He's a wonderful representative of Hit the Road Tours, Melbourne, and Australia!
Absolutely fabulous day. Our guide Marty was fantastic, very knowledgeable. Amazing variety along the coast, from the geography to the weather, and get to see kangaroos and koalas in the wild as well. Can’t wait to return.
An amazing tour. Make sure you run the reverse route to miss crowds. Marty was an exceptional guide and made the day fantastic. There is a surprise stop at the end too..
This was the only thing I booked in advance for our days in Melbourne. I narrowed it down to two tour options before deciding to do it in reverse. I highly recommend this tour. Doing it in reverse allowed you to get the long drive out of the way at the beginning when you’re still sleepy from waking up early and then it is one beautiful stop after another on the way back to the city. I wondered if a 12 hour tour would be too much, but there were so many small stops Along the way the time flew. Marty was fantastic pointing out wildlife. He got us to all the sites just before other vans arrived so we had the site to ourselves each time it seemed. The scenery is incredible and not to be missed. Such a variety of stuff to see in such a short period of time. I was well aware that my pick up time was 6:40, but the night before trip advisor sent me a “boarding pass” of sorts that said 6:50. It confused me and I will say that we arrived right at 6:40 am instead of the 6:35 I would have originally planned which caused us to get called as we were seconds away. Do not let Trip advisor confuse you and think you have a later pick up time than you know you do.
Marty provided excellent commentary and interesting information on this well organised and fun day trip from Melbourne along the Great Ocean Road. Avoiding the crowds with this reverse itinerary trip allowed plenty of time to explore the spectacular sights. Included a nice visit to the rainforest in the Otway National Park and a long lunch at Apollo Bay. Three convenient pick-up points in the City Centre. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes as you get the opportunity to do a lot of walking exploring the truly stunning scenery. Comfortable bus. Highly recommend!
Very friendly tour guide , excellent behaviour, and very patient. Also the itinerary was excellent. The itinerary was also excellent, did not miss a single spot.
I've dreamt of visiting Australia since I was a young teen, long ago. Finally I've made the trip and this tour was everything I imagined a visit to Australia could be: koalas in trees, a field full of placid, yet bouncy kangaroos, gorgeous beaches and rock formations, and friendly people. An extra, wondrous bonus was wandering through an ancient, almost pre-historic temperate rainforest. It is a long day and there are windy and bumpy roads sometimes but it is one of the best travel experiences I ve had. Mark, our driver and guide was wonderful. If you are considering this trip, don't hesitate to. It was fantastic.
What a wonderful tour! We had a small group of just 12 people on the bus, which made for a fantastic day with fellow sightseers. It’s the perfect way to experience Australia outside of the city, take in some monumental scenery, and get a great historical overview of the Great Ocean Road. This tour runs in reverse, meaning you start at the Twelve Apostles and work your way back to the memorial arch. Our guide, Mark, was excellent—knowledgeable, fun, and he got us safely to every single spot worth seeing. The food stops were fantastic too. We started with excellent coffee and breakfast at Bella Hope in Colac, followed by lunch at George's in Apollo Bay (though I highly recommend grabbing a spinach and ricotta roll from the Apollo Bay Bakery!). The coastal drive back is absolutely beautiful, with plenty of scenic stops for photos. For a 12-hour, all-day trip, the price is extremely reasonable. It is absolutely worth it, and I highly recommend Hit the Road Tours. If I ever return to Australia, I’ll definitely do this exact tour again!
Jimmy was our guide and he was the most enthusiastic in explaining things we saw along the way. It was a packed itinerary and his driving skills were on point shuffling us from one spot to another. It’s a good tour to be on if you’re short on time. We were lucky enough to get decent weather at 12 apostles and also see wild koalas and kangaroos spotted by Jimmy. Food spots were the same across all tour buses, and they were just fine, but understandably that they weren’t the highlight of the trip anyway. It was interesting to see the tour agency group and categorize the buses by ethnicity.
I had an amazing day on the Reverse Great Ocean Road tour. The itinerary was very well planned. Starting from the Twelve Apostles early in the day meant we could enjoy the views without large crowds. We visited beautiful places including the rainforest, and several coastal lookouts. Seeing wild kangaroos and koalas in their natural habitat was definitely a highlight. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the long drive enjoyable with interesting stories and local information. The pace of the tour was comfortable, and I never felt rushed at any stop. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Melbourne. It was a wonderful experience and a great way to explore one of Australia’s most beautiful regions.
