I had a wonderful bespoke experience. 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Met me at baggage claim, brought me to the wall snd to The Forbidden City and dropped me off at a hotel. Clean, new car, brilliant chauffeur Ms Chan, and a very engaging host/guide Herbie who offered a sweeping history of Chinese civilization as context for the sites we visited. He even helped me clear of some hotel details.
We have had the best day with Herbie and our driver Rob. We could not of done what we did without them and really was the best experience and worth every penny. Herbie was excellent, so knowledgeable and taught us so much. The kids loved it too. We got to see so much. Ge even took us for dinner at a local restaurant which was really helpful. Thank you so much for such a pleasent nd stress free experience from the booking to the end. Excellent customer service throughout.
During our journey from Stockholm, Sweden to Vietnam, we had an 11 hour layover at Beijing Airport on March 9th. Wanting to make good use of the time rather than simply waiting at the airport, we found www.beijinglayovertour.com and decided to book a tour. The booking process was simple and efficient. The operator responded to all our questions almost immediately, and we arranged a private tour of the Great Wall and the Old Town Hutongs. We were met at the airport Starbucks by our excellent guide, Herbie, and departed by car toward the Great Wall. On the way, Herbie provided us with a fascinating introduction to Chinese history related to the Wall. Throughout the tour he continued sharing his extensive knowledge, explaining the Wall’s purpose, its strategic design, and the enemies it was built to defend against. It was all extremely interesting. After visiting the Great Wall, we continued on to the Old Town Hutongs, where Herbie once again enriched the experience with his insights into local history and culture. In summary, the tour was both surprisingly educational and very enjoyable. Being picked up and dropped off directly at the airport made the experience exceptionally convenient—especially since, without any knowledge of Chinese, arranging such a trip on our own would have been very challenging. And for anyone wondering: Herbie speaks excellent English.
Our layover in Beijing airport turned out to be a historic and well spent 11 hours! Our amazing guide Herbie was excellent and informed. We were all four very happy and would recommend everyone who has the time to book this trip. Everything went smooth and we were never in a rush.
Herbie was an outstanding guide! We had the pleasure of having a private guided tour with him at the Great Wall and the Forbidden City in Beijing, and the experience exceeded all our expectations. He was incredibly attentive to our entire family, especially our teenage children, making sure everyone was engaged and comfortable throughout the tour. His kindness, patience, and professionalism truly stood out. Herbie has an impressive depth of knowledge about Chinese history and the sites we visited, explaining everything in a clear, detailed, and engaging way. His English is excellent, which made communication smooth and easy. We highly recommend Herbie to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, dedicated, and personable guide who truly enhances the experience!
Nina was a fantastic guide, a true companion of adventures and also an exceptional photographer. He accompanied me on this tour of the Wall of China and the discovery of Beijing, managing to make me fall in love with the city... so much so that I definitely want to go back! In addition to being super competent, she really took care of me: she helped me to check that I always have everything with me (even my passport!), because I am a rather distracted person. This made me feel calm and followed at all times. He answered all my questions with great availability and told the story with a contagious passion, making every visit even more interesting and engaging. Super super recommended! Nina, you are amazing, thank you so much for this unforgettable experience.
During our stay in Beijing we were accompanied by Herbie and Mister Tree. Both exceeded our expectations! Besides providing winter jackets and drinks, we were told a lot about the history of China and our guide had answers to all questions. We felt very comfortable, got a great first impression of Beijing and the culture and also had other nice and funny conversations. In addition, Herbie also took great photos, which he then sent us! You can tell that both really try a lot and want you to notice a lot in the time you are there. I would always do a tour with Herbie and Mister Tree. Can only recommend!
Highly recommended. We enjoy and learn China’s history. Herbie our guide was great and he also took our photos. Very good guide and photographer. We also got special treatment from our driver Tree. We will recommend to our friends and family your company. Thank you so much Herbie and Tree.
This trip was everything I imagined and hoped for - and more! Experiencing the Great Wall under Herbie’s excellent guidance was an incredible experience! Discovering the history of the Dynasties, along with the detailed knowledge of the cultural elements that underpin the astounding Forbidden Palace, was so interesting. Herbie is fun, speaks excellent English and is a most attentive guide. Having him lead our personal tour left us enriched and enthralled. And to top it off, we were so grateful for our little surprise from Herbie at the end of the day!Top tips: It’s a full day - so be sure to get plenty of sleep on the plane beforehand and wear comfortable walking shoes! Also remember to bring some Chinese Yuan in cash to shop at Hutong Village. We didn’t and weren’t able to buy anything with Apple Pay. An amazing day - HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
My wife and I opted for the private tour to the Great Wall, forbidden city and hutongs. We had a great experience with our guide Herbie. Having a tour guide with the knowledge and experience Herbie has, was a great advantage explaining the history of what we were visiting as well as details we should focus on. He offered to take our pictures a lot on the tour, I’m pretty sure he was a photographer in a previous life, these were amazing every single time. The experience was splendid, from the pick up, the tour, the drop off everything went great. 100% recommend Beijing lay over tours. Very happy to do a similar tour like this again in the near future and hopefully again with Herbie as our tour guide.
