O grande palácio brilhante em Banguecoque é uma maravilha arquitetônica que foi uma vez o lar dos reis da dinastia Chakri. Uma visita ao ornamentado e histórico Grande Palácio, e o templo adjacente do Buda Esmeralda, é um destaque de qualquer visita ao Reino. O palácio foi construído em 1782 pelo Rama I, o primeiro rei da dinastia Chakri, quando ele mudou a capital do que era então conhecido como o Reino de Sião de Thonburi na margem oeste do rio Chao Phraya para Banguecoque na margem leste. Durante 150 anos, o palácio foi o lar do rei tailandês. Hoje, o complexo continua sendo o coração espiritual do Reino Tailandês. Wat Pho é um dos templos mais antigos da capital tailandesa. É também um dos maiores complexos de templos em Banguecoque e tem a maior coleção de imagens de Buda na Tailândia. Wat Pho mantém o título como o primeiro centro de educação pública do país, especializado em religião, ciência e literatura. A maioria das imagens de Buda exibidas foram trazidas para Wat Pho, por ordem do Rei Rama I, de templos abandonados em Ayutthaya e Sukhothai. E, claro, você visitará o Buda reclinado, uma das maiores estátuas de Buda na Tailândia. Uma estadia na capital tailandesa não é completa sem visitar Wat Arun, o Templo do Amanhecer, um dos marcos mais famosos de Banguecoque. Após a queda de Ayutthaya, o rei Taksin estabeleceu um palácio real e um templo aqui para abrigar o Buda Esmeralda. O templo recebeu o nome do deus indiano do amanhecer, Aruna. Não foi até que a capital e o Buda Esmeralda foram movidos para Wat Phra Kaew no lado de Banguecoque que Wat Arun recebeu sua característica mais proeminente: o prang de 82 metros de altura (torre em estilo khmer). Wat Arun é decorado com mosaicos florais ornamentados feitos de porcelana Chinês quebrada, uma ornamentação comum do templo no início do período Rattanakosin, quando navios Chinês chamando no porto de Banguecoque usaram toneladas de porcelana antiga como balasto. Ken, our guide, gave a great overview of the history of each of the sites before entering. He was friendly and personable, and this tour was a GREAT way to start our trip in Bangkok. These temples are a must-see in Bangkok, and we would’ve been overwhelmed doing it on our own. (We also avoided being accosted by lots of other independent guides by being in our small group of ten!)

Our guide is very knowledgeable. However, she did not manage the time well, so we only get to see 1/2 of the Wha Pho. And pretty much rushed our way to the third stop. I was quite disappointed of not seeing the entire ground of Wha Pho. Need to improve the time management. A bit less on detailed history lesson. We just need to have a short summary so we can cover more ground.

Great architecture and amazing landscape terrible guided and expensive tour through Tripadvisor! Local guide couldn’t speak English and was clueless; 6 people booked up 4 dropped off less than mid way as it was so disappointing, 130 bucks for two adults through Tripadvisor; the entry fees and charges to the royal palaces which you could have gotten for 20 USD on the door on the day would have been a far better option; and a hand held device in the language of your choice which would have been preferable and more convenient. Do your own thing and make sure you wear long trousers out of courtesy and respect in the temples.
