Whale watching and Mendenhall Glacier trip.

Excellent experience. We met the bus driver a short distance from the pier and were dropped off at the Mendenhall glacier. If you hurry you can hike up to the nugget falls which are spectacular. It would be good to add a little time to this stop because the falls are about a 45 min to an hour round trip. The whale watching was the highlight of the trip. Savannah our guide was awesome. Not only did she and Jay (our captain) go over safety details and take us really up close to the whales, they had hot chocolate and snacks on the boat as well. Savannah is very well informed about the whales, their behavior and life cycle. The boat was neat and tidy. There is a rest room on board as well. Overall highly recommended!

LOVED the whale tour... would skip the glacier next time tho

### Amazing whale watching experience — I’d book the whale tour again in a heartbeat! The **whale watching portion of this tour was absolutely amazing** and was easily one of our favorite experiences in Alaska! If we were to do it again, though, we would probably book **the whale watching tour by itself** and skip the Mendenhall Glacier portion. The whale boat was **nice, clean, spacious, fast, and felt very safe**, with plenty of room for everyone. Our captain, **JJ**, was great, and **Libbie from Dolphin Tours**, who was our onboard whale guide, was absolutely amazing and incredibly knowledgeable. She even had a book with the known local whales and let me take pictures of the information so I could identify the whales we saw by their tail “footprints.” I ended up identifying **8 different whales** and even got pictures and videos of the famous **Flame**! You can also get a picture with a replica of Flame’s tail before boarding. Of course, we wished we could have gotten closer to the whales, but we understand that boats legally have to stay at least **100 yards away** unless the whales choose to come closer themselves. The whales we saw mostly surfaced right around that 100-yard distance, but seeing so many of them was still incredible! They also provided **snacks, candy, and hot cocoa**, and there was a **restroom on the boat**, which was appreciated. Our driver, **Jake**, was also amazing—very relaxed, friendly, and full of information. On the way to the whale tour, we saw the glacier again from several different spots, along with a **black bear and tons of bald eagles**! We didn’t stop for those, but it was still awesome seeing them along the way. One thing I really recommend considering before booking is **where your cruise ship docks in Juneau**. If you dock right in town near the main street, getting to the pickup point is incredibly easy—you can practically walk off the ship and find the person holding the sign. However, if your ship docks farther away, around a mile or so, you may have to walk, wait in what can be a **2–3 hour shuttle line**, or pay around **$30 for a very short Uber ride**. Definitely factor that into your timing so you make it to the meeting point on time! The **Mendenhall Glacier portion was the only part that disappointed us**. Maybe we expected more because of all the hype, but we had already seen the glacier from the water on our way to whale watching, and it just wasn’t as impressive to us as Dawes Glacier or the glaciers in Endicott Arm. It’s definitely big, but we personally found those other glaciers much more beautiful. We also wish the glacier stop had been explained better beforehand. The visitor center was already closed, and while there is a hike you can do, you need enough time to finish it and get back before your transportation leaves. There were multiple tours there at the same time, so it wasn’t really a situation where you stayed together as one group. You get dropped off and are basically on your own. We were told there would be buses returning to town in approximately 15 minutes, 1 hour, and 1½ hours. We made it back to the pickup area within about 10 minutes, but the 15-minute bus had apparently already left, so we ended up waiting nearly another **50 minutes in the cold** after we had already seen the glacier and taken our pictures. Overall, **the whale watching experience was absolutely worth it**, and we would 100% do that part again! Next time, we’d love to spend more time exploring **downtown Juneau** and book another whale watching excursion on its own. **JJ, Libbie, and Jake all helped make this an amazing experience!**

The whale watching tour was the absolute highlight of our trip! Captain Austin and his crewmates, Savannah and Libby, were everything we could have wished for and more. They went above and beyond to ensure we had the best possible experience. Thanks to their deep knowledge of the local waters, we saw an incredible number of whales and seals throughout the tour. They provided great information, kept everyone comfortable, and made the whole trip unforgettable. We couldn't recommend them more! A++++++!

I love the smaller tours...

I love the smaller tours owned and operated by locals. This one does not disappoint. Very knowledgeable and interesting. We saw a family of 4 Orca and 3 or 4 Humpbacks! Snacks, coffee, hot chocolate and water as well. We were given plenty of time at Mendenhall Glacier to see and do.
