Vanessa was wonderful. She was informative and fun to be with. I would highly recommend this tour. There was lots of food and it was quite delicious.
Vanessa is passionate about her history, food and flavors of Venice. She really cares that everyone learns and has a great time. Brava!
Our guide Vanessa transformed our experience with not only local tastes and smells, but took us back in time and painted a better understanding of how life was experienced by Venecians, but most importantly, how the Jewish community lived. Her love and passion for history is transformed into a colourful painting and creates a mindful reality of the past. I would suggest an empty stomach on arrival, as we consume various dishes right up to the end of the tour. The only mistake made, was doing the tour on the first day, as I now see Venice in a very different way. Venice, you are a true beauty who has stood the test of time.
This was a group tour but there were only 4 of us that evening. Our guide, Vanessa, was Italian, young and bubbly, and had very good English skills. We started with Yum Yum restaurant and the appetizer spread of hummus, falafel, and many other salads was very good. This is a kosher establishment so there was also kosher wine. We wandered through the ghetto and saw the exterior of the two operating synagogues. It would have been nice to see the interior but I did not know if that was not allowed because of security. Some of the other synagogues are in the process of being restored as a museum but unfortunately were not open for viewing yet. The main square held monuments and memorials but by the time we got there it was dark and we had to use our cellphone flashlights to see these sights. It would have better if the guide had a good light or the tour operator had scheduled the tour a little earlier in the day. We then visited Cannaregio. On this portion of the tour we were served wine and snacks at one locale which were ok, very good pasta and wine at another restaurant (you had two choices of pasta), and we ended with yummy gelato at our last stop. I thought that it was an interesting tour and I enjoyed getting out of the hubbub of St. Mark’s square and visiting other parts of Venice. I would recommend this tour and Vanessa as a guide.
My husband and I had a great time. Our wonderful guide was a great companion. Her knowledge and dedication impressed us so much!! We hope to return to Venice and to retake the tour.
This is a “must do” experience! Vanessa was a fun, intelligent, informative guide. Vanessa walked us through the history of Venice’s Jewish Ghetto and more. All of our senses were aroused and used: The smells and tastes of local foods and wines, the sounds of the city, touching the walls of temples, and seeing the ancient buildings. She specializes in make each stop personal with food and beverage choices. It was certainly an adventurous day. I highly recommend this guide and tour!
Our tour guide, Vanessa, was outstanding. Her research and knowledge of the local history and stories were excellent. Her ability to recommend foods and wines for tasting was one of the best we've experienced. She was conscious of our group's needs and expectations and made every effort to ensure that everyone in the group had an amazing experience. Be prepared to eat quite a bit. There was plenty to taste and eat. When in Venice, be sure to take this tour and ask for Vanessa. You will not be disappointed.
There is a good bit of walking involved and there is the opportunity to try foods you may never have eaten before. You may not like everything, but it’s an experience. You need to pace yourself because there is a lot of food. Our guide was very knowledgeable and fun.
Dennis was very informative and personable. He made sure that everyone was able to participate. It was a very pleasant afternoon.
This food tour was both educational and delicious. Make sure you come HUNGRY! Sooo much food and drink! Definitely worth the money and time. We loved that we were taken off the beaten path and learned a lot about the real Venice and its history.
