Completar o seu passeio de dia Galle com uma visita para ver os surpreendentes pescadores Stilt em Weligama. Os pescadores sentam-se em uma barra transversal amarrada a um poste vertical que é plantado no recife de coral e no palafito com uma mão enquanto está sentado e realizam pesca com vara e linha com a outra mão. A prática da pesca de palafitas começou cerca de 50 anos após o final da Segunda Guerra Mundial, quando os pescadores descobriram que a pesca das rochas que se projetavam sobre o mar não era suficiente para capturar peixes em grande número, então começaram a plantar canos de metal descartados no recife e usá-los para se apoiar e pescar. Com o tempo, os pescadores descobriram que a madeira funcionava tão bem quanto desenvolviam os pólos nas versões mais modernas que vemos hoje. É uma visão única de se ver e uma que não deve ser perdida enquanto observamos e nos maravilhamos com a destreza do homem para superar qualquer obstáculo.

Galle Dutch Fort - Depois de aprender sobre a pura determinação do povo através da arte exibida no Tsunami Photo Museum, vamos agora dirigir-se ao Forte Holandês de Galle. Com uma história tumultuada que remonta a vários séculos, a localização estratégica da cidade fez dele um centro de comércio marítimo e, posteriormente, um ponto de desembarque para os governantes coloniais da ilha. Um forte foi construído para garantir a proteção e preservação da cidade dos portugueses no início do século XVI e depois amplamente fortalecido pelos holandeses durante o século XVII. Originalmente, o forte era uma estrutura de terra com paliçadas, uma muralha e três baluartes e um fosso em torno dela. Sob o controle dos holandeses, construíram fortificações inexpugnáveis com pedras de coral e granito, e o forte lembrava uma pequena cidade murada com um padrão retangular de ruas cheias de casas baixas com empenas e varandas.

É um museu completamente caridoso que oferece entrada gratuita e tem desenhos, pinturas, fotografias - arte em toda a sua glória - para contar uma história de cada indivíduo que viveu o tsunami de 2004.

Deshan was a wonderful tour guide, and showed me all around Galle and the surrounding areas. We were able to visit a number of places including some local beaches, the Galle Fort, a beautiful jewelry store, and a turtle hatchery. Everything was made so convenient and easy, and Deshan went above and beyond to ensure I had an enjoyable and fun day. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone wishing to maximize their time in Galle.

I had a pleasant experience. The pickup was on time and Mr.Deshan was kind and patient. Some places were not included and we skipped Gem factory. Be prepared for scorching heat. Food was very bad in quality and taste.

Had a great day out with Chamika. So many experiences packed in to one day - beautiful beaches, historic sites and a really interesting insight into Ayurvedic herbs and their uses. The ride was comfortable and cool and the lunch we chose (rice and curry set) was authentic and served while the waves lapped only meters away. Highly recommend this one day tour with Chamika.

After completing a 7-day tour of Sri Lanka, we booked a day tour from Colombo to Galle, as this part of the country was not on our tour itinerary. Pick up at our hotel was seamless. We are so glad that we visited this part of the country. The day was jam-packed with highlights, and our driver/guide Deshan was excellent. He was knowledgeable and friendly and adjusted the tour to suit our needs. He provided some fantastic suggestions for other stops. The Dutch Fort was much bigger than I expected and fascinating to explore. The gem museum was very informative. The staff there were not all about just trying to make a sale. The tsunami museum was somber, and the turtle hatchery was brilliant. It was a great final day in Sri Lanka
