Treat this like a ski trip. Full snow gear if you don’t want to get cold and wet. Big tip. Weather always improves at high noon (not 12, it’s when sun is at its highest.)
The drive from El Calafate is about 2.5 hours. On the way you stop at several spots for photographs of Lake Argentina and landscapes. After you enter the national park we drove to some catamarans, boarding one to go to within 200 meters of the south face of the Perito Moreno glacier. Afterwards we went to a restaurant located near walking paths that provide views of the north and south face of the glaciers. The paths are very well constructed but there are hundreds of steps down and them back up. The views were amazing. We saw and heard “calving” of the glacier (where pieces break off and fall into the lake). The drive back was just over an hour.
full day it goes fast. Tour guide very knowledgeable in both Spanish and English. stupendous view of the glacier. be sure to take the hour navigation tour going up near the glacier for wonderful photo opertunities
Excellent communication. Very accommodating pickup from my AirBnB and drop off somewhere convenient for me to continue my day. The bus was very comfortable. The guide narrated our outward bound trip with a great deal of local knowledge. Inward bound we were allowed to enjoy the drive with soft music and to have a bit of a siesta. I highly recommend this tour!
Great scenery and guide. The transport was a bit squishy - ever seat filled with big adults. Unfortunately the communication beforehand was inconsistent and left us stressing that we didn’t have a tour to go on… but it did all work out.
Starting with a prompt pickup, our bilingual guide did a great job of describing what we were looking at on the way to the glacier. The Glacier itself is truly globally unique in its size, it’s accessibility by boat and the viewpoints on the facing cliffs. I highly recommend taking the boat option for an entirely different perspective on this wonder.
The glacier is stunning. Thought the boat was good but the panoramic views were better. About 1.5 hours from Calafate but pretty straight road with great views. Guide spoke English and full of info.
The tour guide was very helpful and knowledgeable. Everything was better than expected. A tour that is for everyone not to miss.
This experience is not to be missed as the glacier is breathtaking and we highly recommend to book it with navigation to get close to the beautiful glacier. Our tour guide, Ines made this experience even more special because of her incredible knowledge and upbeat personality. We highly recommend this tour to anyone who is in El Calafate; we even made a stop there on our way to Ushuaia just to have this experience and it was worth it.
The cold is huge for those of us from the tropics, but it is 100% worth it. They take approximately 15-20 minutes to collect. Spectacular scenery, time is enough.
