Let me begin by saying that our tour guide was absolutely amazing! Smart, fun, flexible, and absolutely fluent in English. She is a teacher in Punta Arenas so she was accustomed to ‘herding cats’😀. However I think Yellow Penguin needs to improve its communication with clients. We received communications That it was essential for us to leave the ship as soon as it docked and go to the place where it was implied that the tour began at 8:00am. We were there one hour before the start time only to discover that the tour guides arrived at 8 and the tour actually began at 9:00! The instructions also said to bring American dollars (a $50 bill )so they could give us $10 change for 2 visitors to the park. On arriving at the park we were told that they only accepted Chilean Pesos or credit cards. Finally it would have been thought to have water available for the 4 hour trip. Ala in all though an interesting view of the rebuilt early fort.
Tour time was 8:00 but we left the parking area at 9:15! Not a good start. Tour was good and we enjoyed seeing the fort.
This was an excellent tour to learn the establishment of the 1st colony & Fort in this region. We learned from an excellent guide, Romina, with Yellow Penguins who picked us up at the Punta Arenas port. We booked this tour on Viator and Yellow Penguins communicated with us via email & WhatsApp proactively. In fact, they wrote us: "The tour is scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM. If your ship arrives late, don’t worry—we’ll start approximately 30 minutes after docking and adjust to any delays. At Yellow Penguin, we specialize in cruise passengers and work closely with all cruise lines, so we’re always updated on any schedule changes." Ten of us from Oceania Vista went on this tour independently. We were in a clean, 17-passengers van with our guide and driver. Romina told us the history and other interesting facts while we were traveling to, around and from this national park. This historic national park preserves the establishment of the first military fort, Fuerte Bulnes, in 1843. It established the first community in Southern Chili with 22 people and served to ward off claims to Chilean Padagonia by other nations as well as to guard the Strait of Magellan. The park has a very nice restaurant, gift shop and small museum with much signage in both English & Spanish. Thoroughly enjoyed this tour and well worth the cost for this 4 1/2 hour tour with Romina.
A worthwhile trip along the straight of Magellan to a reconstructed fort of the 1st Chilean settlement in Patagonia on top of hill with an awesome view.
Excellent, fantastic tour & sights, Romona Figuero, tour guide was excellent, personable, lots of info in a fun & interesting way. She went above & beyond! Also driver Salvatore was excellent. A day full of memories.
This is one of the good trips we really want to make in Punta Arenas. It told the history of Punta Arenas. The people who built the first house to this beautiful place, and finally to became the fort. To my surprise, there's a church inside. Along the way, there were a lot of beautiful flowers, we saw the dolphins playing near the shoreline, our bus driver stopped to allow us to watch the dolphins play. We were lucky and really enjoyed the trip.
The tour guide, Romina, was very sweet and waited for us to get off the ship. Tendering was very backed up. She gave lots of information along the way and answered our questions at the Fort. We even stopped along the ride back at an amazing flower field.
Very competent guide who provides interesting and interesting facts about the history of the settlement of southern Chile. She also spoke easy-to-understand English for Central Europeans
We took this tour as a shore excursion on our HAL cruise. The tour got off to a rough start because Yellow Penguin told all of us it (5 of 6 couples) started at 8, but told the tour guides that it was at 9 and to arrive at 8:30. We were looking all around for our guide at 8 am. Once we found the guide, we had to wait around until 8:45 until they had located the one couple they thought had been told 9. We finally left about 8:45 am. Nonetheless, it was an excellent tour. There were 12 of us, picked up in a comfortable Sprinter van. Our tour guide Nico was excellent. He works as a ranger at the Fort Bulnes property 4 days a week and does tours on the side. He was passionate and very knowledgeable about the history and the natural environment. There was another small tour that met us later from Yellow Penguin and their guide was equally enthusiastic and attentive. We were fortunate to have a clear day. Even with the sun out, I was glad to have my down jacket. Dress in layers and very warm if the weather is poor. The ride to the Fort is along the coastline and a beautiful ride. Fort Bulnes is very interesting historically and located on a breathtakingly beautiful property with incredible views. After touring the Fort, we walked along the coastline trail down by the water, saw dolphins, birds, views, etc. I saw some HAL buses and I don’t think they bought guests down the coastal trail. Fort Bulnes has a nice gift shop with quality products and a restaurant/ coffee shop where we enjoyed pizza and coffee. Giving this a 4/5 due to the communication from the Yellow Penguin, which operates tours in several countries and should be able to do a better job. The tour itself and the guides were a 5 out of 5!
Nice trip out of the city with important historical site. Romina and driver were very friendly and helpful in understanding the fort and museum.
