Eren has been absolutely amazing and has gone above and beyond to make our experience special. He’s taken us to extra stops, shown us places we never would have discovered on our own, and really gone the extra mile to make sure we’re having a great time. Nothing feels rushed or overly touristy—it feels personal and genuine. This experience has honestly been so much better than the typical cruise excursions. Having Eren show us around has allowed us to see and experience so much more. He’s friendly, knowledgeable, flexible, and clearly cares about giving his guests the best possible experience. If you have the opportunity to tour with Eren, I highly recommend it!

Our tour was organized by someone who was on the same cruise and looking for 2 couples to complete the group so I don’t know what / how they chose this particular tour. Our tour guide was named Ozge and our driver was Mustafe. We booked for an 8:30 meeting just outside the port. You can’t miss it. There’s probably 100 name cards with group names on a wall as soon as you walk out. We were delayed quite awhile because we were waiting on the rest of our party to arrive. They waited on everyone to arrive without any issue. Then we had to walk about a block or so to meet the van. The van was a modern, clean, and AC cooled sprinter type van which easily accommodated 9 plus the guide and the driver. Today’s temp was about 99°F. Not sure exactly what that converts to in C, but 30some°C. . Ozge was a great tour guide. Her English is very good and she’s clearly very familiar with the ruins of Ephesus and other sites. She gave good practical advice about access to WC, water, Local customs, tipping. I gathered that she understands the feelings of American tourists and tries to balance their expectations with her country’s culture. She is very diplomatic in presenting the options to shape your particular tour. I mention this point because I think our group was split on one part of the tour which I will touch on in a bit. First, we headed to Ephesus. It took about 25-30 minutes. It is very difficult to hear her speak in the van if you are in the last two rows due to noise from the AC blowing. Once she realized that she used a microphone and it was much easier to understand. Her English is very very good to excellent, but there is an accent so sometimes you need a moment to understand. Ephesus tour was great, but with this heatwave she took cues from us as to how much time we wanted to spend walking in the sun and heat. After the tour, you have to walk a pretty typical gauntlet of gift shops and eateries. Bargaining is expected, but also feels somewhat wrong in this area. It was very hot as it is August (2026 heatwave throughout much of Europe, but this might be typical of the area) with some relief in the shade. Pack a wide brimmed hat or visor, sunglasses/shades, wear sunscreen and some people were using umbrellas to create their own shade. My BIL had personal air cooler that helped a lot. I bought a FROZEN 1.0L bottle of water before entering the tour for 2€. Worth it. Bring cash (euros or lire) you need it for WC (50¢) before entering the ruins and no WC until the end of tour. After the tour the group voted on the remaining itinerary. Majority rule was skip house of Virgin Mary, see Basilica of St John, see what remains of the temple of Artemis, have lunch, see how rugs are made, and try some Turkish desserts. Lunch was at a restaurant adjacent to rug shop. We saw several other tour groups. The food was good and generous portions were served family style. After lunch we walked through a courtyard and entered the rug shop. I don’t know where all the handmade rugs were actually made, but there were three weavers working on different pieces demonstrating the process. The first salesman had associates unfurl several gorgeous rugs for us to walk on and admire. They served us tea/turkish coffee. Two of us in the group were interested in looking seriously. The other two couples were definitely not interested and would have preferred to skip this part altogether. But we voted as a group to go do this lunch ($15) and the rug viewing…which led to me buying a rug…much to my husband’s dismay. But the rug is beautiful and I don’t regret it. And neither will he…eventually. It will take about 6 weeks to receive so hopefully no issues there. I’ll update this review once it’s delivered. This stop is pitched as a cultural experience as Turkey is known for their hand knotted rugs/carpets and this is where I think our group would be divided on whether they enjoyed this part. Because this experience was definitely cultural but its intent is to sell a rug (among other things). And no one likes to feel trapped in a sales pitch. There’s a ton of hospitality and charm. If you said, no thanks, they left you alone. If you said, this is beautiful or that you liked something, they stayed with you and a few of the associates would roll out more and more rugs until there’s a dozen or more rugs on the floor. And then the heart wants what it wants. The bargaining is up to you.

We did a day tour with Alpi. He is a great guide with a broad knowledge of history and modern culture. We went to many sites and he had insight everywhere we went. He allowed us to choose where we wanted to go/see but we just took his recommendations, did not disappoint!Would recommend this tour and hopefully you get Alpi has your guide!

Very Disappointing Experience in Ephesus Unfortunately, our experience with our tour guide in Ephesus was very disappointing. We had an agreed schedule and itinerary, but instead of following it, the guide took us to places that were not part of our scheduled tour. This took away valuable time from the places we actually wanted and expected to visit. When you book a private tour, you expect the guide to respect the itinerary and your time, especially when visiting somewhere as important as Ephesus. We were looking forward to this experience, but instead we left feeling frustrated and disappointed. This was one of the experiences we were most excited about during our trip to Turkey, and unfortunately it did not meet our expectations at all. I would recommend confirming every stop in advance and making it very clear that you do not want any unscheduled stops.

Alpi was a great tour guide! Very knowledgeable with the history and what sites to see. We got to choose from several different places to go and he made great suggestions. The house of the Virgin Mary and Ephesus were so beautiful. Would definitely book again!
