Construído no início do século XX em homenagem ao cultivo de chá chinês e importado no Brasil, o monumento da Vista Chinesa oferece um amplo panorama repleto de verde da zona sul do Rio. A trilha tem acesso fácil e é totalmente pavimentada, levando à observação de uma subida íngreme e exigente, mas compensa um dos picos mais bonitos da cidade!
A partir de 1856, o Jardim Botânico foi ligado ao Alto de Boa Vista por uma estrada em balanço, aberta por influência do Barão do Bom Retiro e cuja execução e manutenção foi contratada por Thomas Cochrane. Ele registra a crônica da época que, neste trabalho, os trabalhadores foram empregados "cules" trazidos da China (Macau) para desenvolver a cultura do arroz, mas que, tendo demonstrado nenhuma capacidade para a agricultura, foram usados para construir a estrada. Esta região apresenta uma assombrosa coincidência de presença chinesa, iniciada com a chegada dos plantadores de chá de D. João VI. Após o fracasso desta safra, segundo o brasileiro Gerson, os chineses teriam se espalhado "pelas fraldas da Tijuca". Em 1844, um mapa da área registra um edifício chamado "Casa dos Chinas", provavelmente um resquício dessa experiência primitiva. Essa "vocação" provavelmente explica por que a Prefeitura (prefeito Pereira Passos, em 1903, com projeto do arquiteto Luis Rey, em argamassa copiando o bambu) construiu um pavilhão chamado "Vista Chinesa", alguns anos depois, que ainda pode ser visitado. Acima, um lugar preparado para servir como local de descanso nas frequentes caminhadas da família real ganhou o nome de Mesa do Imperador.
Em 1860, o engenheiro Job de Alcântara foi encarregado pelo governo imperial de construir a bela ponte de pedra, em formato de arco romano, em frente à Taunay Cascatinha. A maior cachoeira do PNT é formada pela queda das águas do rio Tijuca, do rio Conde e de outros afluentes. Em 1817, o artista plástico Nicolas Antoine Taunay construiu uma pequena casa perto da cascatinha e, encantando, imortalizou a beleza da cachoeira em seus quadros. Ele se tornou o grande anfitrião da floresta, organizando reuniões para o tribunal. A casa de Taunay foi demolida em 1946. No local, foi construído o antigo restaurante da Cascatinha, que atualmente está sendo preparado e reformado para abrigar um café e um novo restaurante.
O Parque Lage está localizado no bairro Jardim Botânico, na zona sul do Rio de Janeiro, próximo a atrações como o Jardim Botânico e o Cristo Redentor. Com uma área de 52 hectares de matas, o espaço é cercado pela Mata Atlântica e faz parte do Parque Nacional da Tijuca.

A great spot for an quiet view of Rio. So many places in Rio to visit, this one is a bit of a hidden gem, worth the visit. Really enjoyed my time in Rio, one of the nicest and most interesting cities I have visited! Will return
Brilliant tour guide, very knowledgeable, great English, friendly and kind. Privet tour was very good he gave time to see things how we wanted without rush. Was a treat to see many different animals including monkey and birds. Definitely recomme.

The tour Tijuca Forest we visit the National Tijuca Forest by jeep, vista Chinese and Cascatinha Taunay Waterfall the guide Rafael Robaina very knowledgeable of history and driver Euclides the best driver even up and down those curves road was amazing outstanding and very knowledgeable of history and safe was first doing this trip. I highly recommend this tour. Just we had time to drip in water but weather was so good to take a drip. But tour was amazing. The church areas is higher than the Sugarloaf point. We Love it.
There is no zero stars allowed. We have used Viator a lot across the world and this is the first time that the tour operator did not turn up, message us or acknowledge our messages. I hope that all is well but my advice is simple - DO NOT BOOK THIS TOUR OR USE THIS OPERATOR! This spoilt our last day in Rio.
First all I am sorry for this inconvinience. I never had this problem in 10 years of work. I believe you have booked the tour for all 5 stars reviews you have read. Unfornatelly I had a problem with our google calendar that have changed your tour for other date, instead of the right one. It never happened before and We made changes in our system working now with two calendars. it is important mention that after explain you what happened by message we fastly have Refunded your money back. The tour was great. First a trip to Palácio - Parque Lage. Great place for photos with Christ the redeemer on the mountain behind. Then on to Tijuca Forest. Great waterfalls and wildlife. Best of all Ederson was great guide. Engaging and enthusiastic. He had great knowledge of the area and history. He was brilliant at ensuring we got the most from the tour and keen to notice what we were interested in and adapt to our needs. Would highly recommend Ederson - he made the tour great.

Great tour, Ederson made sure to show us all the parts of the rainforest and made sure we were comfortable! We got to see an extra waterfall that wasn’t on the original list. Highly recommend!

So move on! When I see the other comments they must have gone through an excellent guide because we saw nothing of what the others showed in the comments. We saw a waterfall and a view and were shown around a dilapidated building that supposedly is a museum. Don't waste your time!
My husband and I loved this 1/2 day tour. He was so knowledgeable and let us spend as much time as we wanted at each spot thru the Tijuca Forest. The highlights were Parque Lage ( he walked us through the awesome forest & had a drink in the gorgeous old mansion) , the Chinese lookout had the most amazing view and we got to watch about 20 monkeys swinging thru the trees, Emperor's lookout, and the Cascatinha waterfall were all so beautiful!! Our tour guide was such a great guy, we had a blast!!! 😊

This was a great trip. Ederson was a brilliant guide. Very knowledgeable and very pleasant. We visited all the main spots in Tijuca and also went to Parque Lage. Was lucky to see some Toucans as well. Highly recommend this tour and this company.
