Bem-vindo ao Rajarata! (O Condado do Rei ou a Terra dos Reis) Vamos começar o nosso dia do mosteiro Vessagiriya Forest, que é um dos dois mais antigos monges budistas que vivem na ilha. No Vessagiriya, os hóspedes começarão a mergulhar profundamente na antiga civilização sinhalese alimentada com budismo, agricultura, belas artes, arquitetura, comércio, relações internacionais e maravilhas de engenharia encantadoras e lá você terá uma ideia de como Anuradhapura parecia em sua era dourada desde o início.
Escondido no lado de uma face de rocha no Ran Masu Uyana (o Royal Goldfish Park) entre o Tissa Wewa e o Isurumuniya Rock Temple em Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka é um artefato único do antigo Sri Lanka que é conhecido localmente como "Bawa Chakraya" ou "Sakwala Chakraya.
A árvore Sri Maha Bodhi ou a árvore sagrada Bodhi (uma figueira ou pipa conhecida cientificamente como o Ficus Religiosa) é considerada o primeiro dos oito lugares sagrados em Anuradhapura. Este é registrado como o ramo direito da árvore Sri Maha Bodhi em Bodh Gaya na Índia, sob o qual o asceta Siddhartha atingiu a Iluminação, e foi enviado pelo imperador Ashoka através de sua amada filha, a freira budista Theri Sanghamitta, a pedido do rei sinhalese Devanampiyatissa no século 3 aC. A partir desse ponto, passou a ser venerada por reis, monges, freiras e budistas leigos sucessivos, uma vez que é uma conexão viva com o Buda Gautama. Em particular, é geralmente aceito que seria a árvore viva plantada pelo homem mais antiga do mundo, com os registros escritos mais longos e, atualmente, quase 2.300 anos de idade.
Para o norte ou a Árvore Bodhi Sagrada, podemos testemunhar uma enorme coleção de pilares de granito em pé que foi identificado como o edifício dilapidado do antigo palácio Brazen que serviu uma vez como o centro administrativo do antigo complexo do mosteiro Maha Vihara construído sob a orientação do grande rei Gamini Abhaya no século 2 a.C., um avô do rei Devanampiyatissa. Era um edifício de nove andares com 1000 salas diferentes. O nome Brazen Palce deriva do fato de que seu telhado era revestido de azulejos de cobre.
A estupa de Ruwanveliseya, também conhecida como Ratnamali ou como Mahathupa (a Grande Stupa), foi construída sob a orientação de Gamini Abhaya no segundo século a.C. As crônicas descrevem fantásticamente a cerimônia de inauguração desta Stupa como um grande festival que foi realizado em Anuradhapura com a participação de convidados, mesmo de outros países, como diplomatas. No entanto, foi destruído durante a invasão de Chola pelo século 10 AC e foi restaurada a estupa à sua glória original no século 12 AC pelo rei Parakkramabahu o maior. Então, de qualquer forma, o que vemos hoje é a forma mais recente restaurada que foi concluída pela Ratnamali Stupa Development Society em 1940, o que foi inicialmente iniciado por Ven. Naranvita Sumanasara Thero em 1873 como ele queria restaurá-lo a sua antiga glória.

Este é realmente algo como um banho de vapor moderno, mas isso não era apenas para desfrutar de banho de vapor com água quente, mas de uma medicina sinhalese bem desenvolvida que se realizou no século 4 AC a partir. Lá podemos discutir como ele funcionou e como os monges doentes na Universidade Abhayagiriya curaram suas mortes cutâneas.
Lá veremos novamente um grande poço de granito na forma de stands de canoa com um incrível intaglio nas instalações do refeitório do Mosteiro Abhayagiriya. O monge chinês Fa-hsien que estudava na Universidade de Abhayagiriya no século V a.C. registrou que havia 5000 monges budistas no mosteiro e que este pote particular poderia conter arroz suficiente para tal número.
Esta é uma das melhores obras de arte no Sri Lanka datam de cerca do século 8 AC. E esta obra-prima está mostrando de forma preciosa o sentido estético dos artesãos antigos e como incrivelmente eles colocaram seus conhecimentos, habilidades, talentos, sentimentos em prática.
Este é popularmente conhecido como o Eth-Pokuna para os locais ou o Elephant Pond em Inglês, localizado a sudoeste do Refectory é talvez o maior lago feito pelo homem na Ásia que foi construído no século 3 AC. Dizem que é três vezes maior do que uma piscina olímpica moderna. O milagre aqui não é apenas o seu enorme tamanho, mas os canais subterrâneos que ainda funcionam e têm sido fornecendo água para o lago a partir de reservatórios próximos e no canto sudoeste podemos notar uma faixa de cisternas que sugere que a água foi distribuída para outros lagos relativamente menores nas proximidades, descrevendo as excelentes habilidades de engenharia hidráulica dos antigos sinhaleses.
A pedra lunar é outra criação mais bonita e deslumbrante do escultor antigo. Ele serve como um tapete de porta aos pés de um voo de escadas para um santuário budista, mas o escultor transforma-o em uma obra de arte de grande excelência.

Lucky took us through the most interesting monastries and ruïnes and told passionatly about budhism and it’s history. Lucky had been a guide since 12 years and knows a lot about Budhism. Overall is was a very fun experience and I learned a lot from Lucky!

I had an outstanding guided tour in Anuradhapura and can highly recommend it. Our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the history of the ancient city. His understanding of archaeology, architecture, and Buddhist philosophy was impressive, and he explained everything in a structured, engaging way. Lucky was an amazing guide. He has deep knowledge of Buddhism, history and archaeology and brought the stones and sights to life. His English is excellent and he tells lots of stories. The day started with an overview of the life of Buddha and his teachings- and, importantly, how they relate to Buddhism as practiced today. As we explored the amazing sights, Lucky would point out interesting details and relate them to the bigger picture that he was building. We also visited Mihinthale to finish the day which was a great add on. I highly recommend Lucky as a guide.
