My wife, daughter and I returned to Puebla last month after visiting there back in 2022. For the second time we were hosted by Elisa (Casa Mexicana). We were excited to be back in this beautiful city and ready for new discoveries and actvities. We signed up for the culinary experience. As arranged, our chef and guide Alonso (muy simpatico) met us at our residence on the appointed morning and time. We decided to walk to our destination, El Mecado Carmen, to select the ingredients for the lunch we would prepare. As we entered the bustling market, we were greeted with a riot of bright colors and tantalizing smells. With Alonso in the lead, we moved from stall to stall learning the names of the fresh fruits, vegetables and spices and handling, smelling and tasting many of them. It was a great experience to see and the time honored tradition of the market place and its importance in the culture. I was left with a greater admiration and appreciation of the city and its residents. Our shopping completed, we returned to our home and assembled in our spacious, traditional kitchen. Alonso assigned each of us a prep job and we went to work in a festive atmosphere preparing the ingredients for our lunch; tinaga and jugo de Jamaica. He provided us with advice and occasional helping hand we needed and our ingredients were transformed into our delicious, traditional poblano lunch. I highly recommend this culinary experience. It was truly enjoyable from start to finish and remains a highlight of the time that we spent in Puebla en Casa Mexicana. We recently followed S chef Alonso’s recipe and it filled us all with great memories we had during our Casa Mexicana culinary experience.Don't miss it it! Buen aprovecho.
This cooking class was a highlight of my trip. We started by visiting the market, where Elisa and Chef told me about all the different ingredients that we would be cooking with and more. Then we took the short walk back to the kitchen, where we cooked a delicious meal. Spending time with Elisa and Chef was like spending time with close friends. It was an absolute joy, and I would highly recommend this experience to anyone that enjoys cooking!
Elisa and Alfonso were simply amazing. My friend and I had a great experience cooking different dishes but the best part was learning about the history behind each of the ingredients and the unique recipes.

We visited Puebla again after 5 years and booked the Culinary Experience with Casa Mexicana. This was way more than just a cooking class - it really was a culinary experience. We first went to the market in the center of Puebla to buy all the ingredients for the meal we had selected to cook (Mole Poblano). Then the fun began as we set out to prepare the mole under the watchful eye of Chef Alonso who also provided us with his own recipe. (It turns out that there are an almost indefinite number of recipes of mole, but this one led to the best mole we have ever tasted). We also learned a lot about all the different spices and a lot about Mexican culinary culture in general. The kitchen setting is authentic and charming. In short, we had a wonderful time and an enriching experience. Highly recommended!
