It was a great excursion but unfortuntely my entire familiy ended up getting sea sick and we had to cut our excursion short. The gentlemen on the excursion were very understanding and we felt horrible as they go to a lot of work to get you fishing and catching. We are just thankful we did catch 2 fish! I contacted this company through TripAdvisor to book a deep sea fishing trip for mt husband, father and grandfather while we travelled as a family to Isla Mujeres for a week. We were all very excited about the trip. I sent my inquiry for booking with my credit card to hold the day. I never received a confirmation email, text or phone call from either TripAdvisor or Isla Fun Tours. The trip did not appear as a booking in my Trip Advisor account. I did not think I had secured a fishing trip as I had received ZERO communication from anyone. Several days into our trip at 6am I began receiving multiple text messages saying they were waiting on us, where were we etc. By the time I woke I had 4-5 messages. I explained the situation to them and asked as we were there for another five days could we reschedule, that I had not received any confirmation of the trip, where to meet, the date and time etc. The text messages that morning were the first contact and they were frankly quite rude. The would not accomodate a rescheduled booked, I was happy to pay and go on the trip. They simply charged me for no-showing the full $900 amount. This is the email I received from TripAdvisor below. I WILL NOT BE BOOKING WITH THIS OPERATOR OR THROUGH TRIPADVISOR MOVING FORWARD EVER AGAIN AND WE TRAVEL FREQUENTLY. These are unkind people, we did not mean to waste their time certainly, but to not reach out at all 24 hours before a booking or send any communication to a client is POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.
Dear Kate, We are sorry that you were disappointed with your experience. However, we would like to clarify a few important points. For us, your reservation was a no-show. You booked your trip through TripAdvisor approximately 15 days before the scheduled tour date. Once a reservation is confirmed, TripAdvisor sends the booking confirmation and, as the tour date approaches, also sends a reminder email. These communications are generated by TripAdvisor, not by Isla Fun Tours. Additionally, the payment was processed by TripAdvisor several days before your tour date, not by us. We do not have the ability to charge customers' credit cards directly for bookings made through their platform. Because your reservation was confirmed well in advance, that date was no longer available for other guests. On the day of your tour, our crew arrived on time and waited for approximately three hours. We also tried everything we could to reach you. We called you at least 10 times and sent multiple text messages, but unfortunately, we did not receive any response. By that time, we had already incurred all of the operating costs for your trip, including fuel, bait, food, and crew wages. Unfortunately, we also lost the opportunity to accept another booking for that day. Based on your review, it appears that you did not see the booking confirmation, the reminder sent before the tour, or the charge that had already been made to your credit card several days in advance. While we understand that mistakes can happen, we also believe it is important to acknowledge that some responsibility lies with the customer to review their reservation details and payment notifications. We genuinely regret that this situation occurred, but from our perspective, we fulfilled our obligations, were fully prepared to provide the service you had booked, and made every reasonable effort to contact you on the day of your tour. Had the pleasure of fishing with the Tatam Team in January. Marcelo said, “we’re going for sails”, and him and his crew absolutely delivered. Ended the morning catching 4 sailfish and 6 bonitos. Experienced, fun, and knows where to fish. Definitely recommend Marcelo!! Steve, Tyler, and Zach.
The crew was amazing! My husband had an amazing time and was able to catch a sailfish. That made his whole trip. Unfortunately my kids were sea sick but the crew still tried to make an effort to make sure they caught fish.
Captain and deck hands were very attentive and accommodating. I definitely recommend taking motion sickness medication prior to the trip in case it is rough as it was for us. We caught one Bonito earlier and a black fin tuna on the way back in shallower water which is uncommon.
We have a great time with Marcelo and Juan. We caught serval fish and topped it off with a sailfish! They were great with my kids. I would definitely recommended them!
We had a wonderful experience! The crew was wonderful and the food was great. Our boat was pretty basic but nice. We will definitely do it again.
We booked a private snorkeling/sunset cruise along with a tequila tasting for a group of 7 girls. While our tequila tasting got canceled last minute, the crew on the boat made up for it by truly catering to our needs as a group. From start to finish the crew was friendly, interactive, answered all of our questions, and let us relax to enjoy the views. The snorkeling was beautiful, informative, and very safe. They let us swing by a beach bar to grab a cocktail (you can bring your own liquor/beer/food etc), and then took us to catch an amazing sunset! Beer and water were on the boat, nice and cold ready to go, along with a light snack at sunset. We could connect to Bluetooth speakers to play any type of music we pleased. We had the BEST time, all the girls agree it was the best day of the trip, so many laughs and memories to last a lifetime! Anyone that is on the fence about booking this trip, you won’t be disappointed! Make sure to ask for Danny as your mate!
We went on this boat trip hosted by Orlando, Eric, and Oscar who were really great guides - they were funny, knowledgable about the island, and made us feel very welcome and cared for. We sailed along the coast, did snorkelling with amazing fish, and got a tequila tasting during the sunset with four tasty tequilas. We definitely recommend this tour! Remember to bring some extra warm clothes as it can get a bit windy on the boat. All in all a great experience we’ll always remember!
