Disappointed with Service

I was contacted the mid afternoon day before by Global Guide Services to let me know the name of our guide and his contact information. Our tour guide Tom contacted me soon after to communicate challenges regarding our Regensburg tour. The 1.5 hour rail ride would be 2.5 hours on the expeditious train or 3+ hours on a slower train plus a bus transfer. I wanted to cancel because I have an 80 + year in my group that would not be able to manage a 5 hour round trip or a 6+ hour round trip. Even though I told Tom I wanted to cancel, Tom was quick to suggest an alternative plan of replacing Regensburg with a tour of the Nymphenburg Castle plus a Museum tour. I agreed. After getting off the phone I tried contacting Global Guide Services directly to cancel given that the tour logistics is challenging. I could not get through to the office at 3:15pm and there is no voice mail option. I repeatedly called both the regular and emergency phone numbers that were given to me in their communication. We went with our alternative plans. We visited the Nymphenburg Castle. Tom is an excellent guide. He has exhaustive knowledge of the castle. During the course of the tour, he let us know he is sick with a cold. He didn’t disclose this fact to us when we met up in the morning for our tour. Given he was sick, we didn’t want to get sick, he should go home and rest, we gave our permission for him to leave after we had lunch together. When Global Guide Services didn’t answer my repeated phone calls, I should have called Viator directly to initiate the cancel request given the logistics of the original tour were unacceptable. Also, there should be agreements between Global Guide Services and a tour guide regarding when they become ill and need to excuse themself from a scheduled tour.

Dear Customer, The tour description clearly states that this is an excursion using public transportation, and that the transportation fee and ticket purchase are not included. As the customer, you are responsible for purchasing and organizing your own transportation to Regensburg. This was not done. The guide therefore supported you by checking train options and informing you accordingly. The guided tour in Regensburg could have taken place exactly as described, even if the train connection required additional travel time. This does not constitute a valid reason for cancelling a tour within the cancellation period. You are holding us responsible for an element of the tour (transportation) that is explicitly not part of our service. Additionally, you participated in a four-hour tour with Tom as an alternative arrangement, and you also invited him for a lunch that lasted approximately two hours. It took six hours of service before you raised any concern about his condition. You used and enjoyed the service, as stated in your own review, and then requested a refund and indicated that you do not intend to pay the guide’s fee. Your decision one day earlier to switch from the Regensburg excursion to a Munich tour further proves that you had no intention of cancelling the booking at that time. We have clear agreements with all our guides regarding health requirements and fitness to guide. Tom has been working with us for more than 15 years, and our founder has been an official guide for 26 years. We are fully familiar with the professional standards of our industry, and external instruction on this matter is unnecessary. Using a guide’s services for six hours while later claiming he was unfit, and simultaneously requesting a refund for a service you received and enjoyed, is not acceptable.

Munich a great city to visit.

A great city to visit, plenty to see, good food. Many day trips that could be made to Regensburg, Salzburg, and of course do not miss Neuschwanstein.
