Este passeio é uma ótima experiência para quem deseja ver o local onde os 192 atenienses morreram lutando contra os persas pela liberdade da Grécia e onde nasceu a Maratona Authentis.

Itinerário
Um dos nossos passeios favoritos, este é dedicado a quem caiu em nome da liberdade. Este passeio especial foi projetado para acomodar os interessados nas batalhas gregas antigas, aqueles que querem descobrir o grande campo de batalha das guerras persas, o avião da Maratona. Partindo de Atenas para a planície sagrada de Marathon, passando pela Attica Highway e pela Marathon Avenue. Este é o curso da Maratona original, como você verá pelas placas que contam cada quilômetro. Mais tarde chegaremos ao Tumulus dos atenienses; o site retrata coragem, bravura e, finalmente, a vitória dos atenienses contra os persas em 490 AEC.
Seguindo em frente, também veremos o Marathon Battlefield, seu Museu Arqueológico com o tumulo das 11 platéias e um cemitério pré-histórico que produz a prova da primeira presença civilizada neste local.
A baía de Maratona é o local exato onde os persas acamparam.
Dirigindo pela atual cidade de Marathon, nossa última parada nesta área será o Marathon Lake, nas encostas do Monte Penteli. É um lago artificial que funciona como o principal reservatório de água de Atenas no passado e sua barragem, uma grande construção mecânica dos inícios do século XX.

Very knowledgeable and pleasant tour guide/driver. This was a much quieter tour than a tour of the Acropolis. A nice break and important history.

Seeing the Battlefields was great. We got plenty of pictures that we can show to friends. We loved our tour guide by the name of Alexander. He made the long car rides between Battlefields enjoyable with his knowledge of history.

We had a lovely tour to Marathon accompanied by our driver George. If you are interested in classical antiquity and particularely the greco-persian wars, I would highly recommend this. The Marathon museum and monuments are not particularely spectacular compared to what you can see in Athens, but visiting the place of one of ancient history most important battles was a fulfilling experience for history enthusiasts. The view from the vantage point was terrific. You could get a great overview of the Marthon valley and imagine how it all played out 2500 years ago. George had great knowledge and was eager to explain details of the battle. He was very accomodating and it was also lovely chatting with him about other topics.
