The worst viator experience I have had by far. Communication was terrible. I reached out to try to figure out the plan with Viator multiple times with no response. I had told them I wanted the guides number so I could coordinate with her. The information they gave me insinuated I would have to make my own way to Miyajima island. So we got up early and took off early to make sure we got the boat from the Atom Dome to Miyajima. We were 45 minutes early to meet the guide because I did not want to miss the boat and needed to figure out where the guide would be. I had emailed Viator. Radio silence. 15 minutes after the guide was supposed to meet us, I was given her Whatsapp contact information only to find out that she was on the COMPLETE OPPOSITE SHORE! She still needed to make the ferry ride to the island. Our tour started 45 minutes late. That’s frustrating in and of itself, but what was infuriating was the complete lack of concern or care for our time or the extra $200 I paid to get my family of 6 over to the island. I literally got no response until the end of the day. Then I got a form letter apology. I had already called Viator customer service to levy a complaint, my information was taken, I was put on hold, and then they hung up on me. If this was my first experience with Viator, it would undoubtedly be my last. Very, very disappointing.

The meeting location for this tour was Miyajima Island, exactly as stated in the booking information and pre-tour instructions. We are therefore unable to understand why it was believed that the tour would begin from the Atomic Bomb Dome area. In addition, communication was maintained through Viator's messaging system both before and on the morning of the tour. These message records are available through the platform and can verify that responses were provided. We also note that much of the concern expressed in this review relates to interactions with Viator's customer service and communication systems, which are outside the control of our company. While we regret any frustration experienced, these matters do not reflect the tour services delivered by our guide. Finally, transportation to Miyajima is not included in the tour price and is clearly listed as an exclusion in the tour details.
Our guide Kaori met us at Miyajima. She was very friendly and knowledgeable about the island. She was also very flexible with our schedule and took lots of photos of us! Highlights were the Torii Gate and the shrine, and also the Daishoin Buddhist Temple. And we also had free time on the main shopping street. It was just the right amount of tour time for us and I appreciate Kaori customizing to our likes and schedule.

We had such a knowing guide, it was both an interesting and very pleassnt tour, - even if it rained, which actually created very atmopheric photo opportunities, of cloudy mountains.

Yoshiko did a great job showing us around Miyajima, including interesting history and hidden sites, food recommendations and about the shops. We toured the Itsukushima Jinja shrine where she provided interesting facts and showed us the best photo spots. Yoshiko was amiable and provided a great experience.

Unforgettable Miyajima Tour with Yuki - Highly Recommended! On August 24, 2025, we (Inga and Wolfgang) enjoyed a private tour of Miyajima - a true highlight of our trip to Japan. Our guide Yuki warmly welcomed us at the ferry station on the mainland and guided us throughout the day. On the island, we visited the impressive Itsukushima Shrine with its famous red torii in the water, strolled along the lively Omotesando Shopping Street, admired the Tahoto Pagoda, and took the roopway up Mount Misen. The tour was very well organized, interesting and simply the perfect choice for us. Yuki made the day so special: she provided excellent insights, always respected our pace, was very caring, and took many wonderful photos of us. We felt completely comfortable and could enjoy Miyajima at a relaxed pace. The tour will always stay in our memory. We were thrilled and can highly recommend Yuki - she truly made it a perfect expierence!
