Knossos, o coração da civilização minóica, fica a 5 km a sudeste de Heraklion, no vale do rio Kairatos. A atração histórica mais famosa de Creta, o local é considerado o maior sítio arqueológico da Idade do Bronze na ilha e é referido como a cidade mais antiga da Europa. Knossos foi habitada pela primeira vez por um assentamento neolítico no século VII aC. Permaneceu habitado por vários milhares de anos até que foi finalmente abandonado em 1375 aC após sua destruição, que marcou o fim da civilização minóica. Em 1878, a primeira escavação em grande escala foi realizada pelo rico amante da arte Minos Kalokairinos, enquanto Creta ainda estava sob ocupação turca. Isto foi seguido pelas escavações de longo prazo (1900-1913 e 1922-1930) de Sir Arthur Evans, que descobriu toda a área circundante de Cnossos.
O Museu Arqueológico de Heraklion é um dos maiores e mais visitados museus da Grécia. Também está entre os museus mais importantes da Europa. É o lar de artefatos de todos os períodos da pré-história e história cretense. As exposições cobrem um período cronológico de mais de 5.500 anos, desde o período neolítico até a época romana. A coleção minóica contém exemplos únicos de arte minóica, muitos deles verdadeiras obras-primas. O Museu Arqueológico está localizado no centro de Heraklion e foi construído entre 1937 e 1940 pelo arquiteto Patroklos Karantinos. We had an amazing private tour to Knossos Palace from Chania, and it was one of the best experiences of our trip to Crete. Christine was a fantastic guide! She is very knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about the history of Knossos and Crete. We learned so much and never felt rushed, and she was happy to answer all of our questions. Our driver Thanos was incredibly kind, professional, and made the long drive comfortable and stress-free. We felt well taken care of from the moment we were picked up until we returned to Chania. If you're thinking about visiting Knossos from Chania, I highly recommend this private tour. Having Christine and Thanos made all the difference! I highly recommend a tour with Thanos and Christine. We learned so much about Crete culture and history and Minoan civilization. Booked this private bus tour for my family and it was simply amazing. The driver and guide, Thanos and Christine, were very kind, polite and friendly. They took care of us all day and made sure We were comfortable the entire trip. The tour allowed us to see the ruins of Knossos, Museum, town of Rethymno and a local Oil factory. Christine & her team blew this tour out of the park for us! We enjoyed learning all about Chania & Crete. The private tour through Knossos was a huge plus & enjoyable, I’m glad we set up the agenda to go there before the museum because the history was so helpful! We opted to go on an olive oil mill tour and it was so interesting to taste & learn more about the process! This team was so easy & flexible to work with and after the tour Christine gave us delicious local spots near our hotel to try. If we visit Chania again, we will be using SeaByBus again!

Our private tour to Knossos was one of the highlights of our trip. Hiring a private guide was absolutely worth it! They brought the history to life with fascinating stories and insights that we never would have gotten on our own. The experience exceeded all of our expectations, and we left with a much deeper appreciation for the site. We also visited Elafonisi Beach with a different tour company. While the beach itself was beautiful, after seeing the quality and service of SeaByBus, I wish we had booked our Elafonisi trip with them instead. Palace of Knossos private tour was fantastic. Our wonderful driver picked us up from the boat port and took us to the site. Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and fantastic.
