Para a construção do complexo foi utilizada pedra travertino branca, uma vez que apenas esta pedra estava disponível em quantidade suficiente para uma construção em tão grande escala. O próprio edifício abriga o Centro de Artes Cafesjian com salas de exposições onde são realizadas exposições permanentes e temporárias. As exposições são atualizadas regularmente para mostrar os melhores exemplares de arte e escultura contemporânea.

A inauguração do Teatro de Ópera ocorreu em 28 de novembro de 1930, por ocasião do 10º aniversário da Armênia Soviética. Em 20 de janeiro de 1933, o prédio foi inaugurado oficialmente. Logo após a fundação do teatro, uma trupe de balé foi criada. O Lago dos Cisnes, de Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, foi a primeira apresentação de balé em 1935.

Hello! I was in Yerevan at the end of May. The weather is beautiful. We took a tour of Yerevan and had a guide, Anush.
