We had the most wonderful, comprehensive tour provided José through Lisbon On Wheels. We visited the Moorish Castle, Pena Palace, the National Palace and quinta da Regaleira. All tour tickets were included, which was a big bonus - all other tours I looked at did not include the tickets, and did not include all these attractions in one tour. What I didn't realize is that we would need to walk from the Moorish Castle to Pena Palace, and then from the National Palace to Quinta da Regaleira. Even with a bad knee I was able to succeed and put in 22K steps! José was an excellent guide and we learned so much about each place that made the tour more memorable. For the best Sintra experience, do not try to do it on your own - book the Sintra Monument Tour!
Trip was fantastic! Started off with a coffee and custard tart stop. On the way to Pena, we learned a lot about Portugal history and the background during the tour of Pena greatly enhanced the tour. Stop in the town of Sintra for some shopping etc., then lunch at a truly local restaurant. Best food and wine on the trip, more like a dinner and very well priced, wine, meal, dessert top notch, honestly unbelievable. Went to Cape Roca, western most point of Continental Europe, then to Hell’s mouth (Boca do Inferno) and Cascais for some shopping etc. Jose was fantastic, great conversation, history, courteous, 10/10. Don’t go on your own, take the day trip with Jose!!
Our guide Jose was exceptional. He was extremely knowledgeable and very personable. He made sure we were comfortable and made it a perfect, amazing experience. Highly recommend!
Our day with Jose from Lisbon on Wheels was the highlight of our time in Portugal. Jose is so knowledgeable and personable that the entire day was a delightful of experience full of history, geography, tasty treats and just plain fun. The positive experience began when I first contacted Lisbon on Wheels because I wanted to see both the Pena Palace and Regaleria but couldn't find a tour that had both. They completely customized the tour for us and included Cascais, Cabo da Roca, and other cool stops I had on my list or those that were known to Jose as special. The Regaleria was as magical as I had hoped with the inverted tower, grottos, tunnels, and gardens. Jose told us all three theories about its meaning and told us the history as well. Then he took us to Sintra where we wandered into a store for a port tasting, including one from 1880! Then, it was off to a little local restaurant for bacalao and other Portuguese goodies off the tourist path. Finally, Jose helped us navigate the lines at the Pena Palace so we could enjoy that too. While there, he told us stories of his youth, before the Palace was commercialized when he was able to go inside and explore. Finally, Jose sent links to more reading that I could do after the tour since there just wasn't time for him to share everything that he knew! All in all, it was an absolutely wonderful day and I will definitely be contacting Lisbon on Wheels to spend another day with Jose exploring something new the next time we are in Lisbon.
We had to pivot our plans last minute due to fires surrounding Sintra, and it turned into one of the best travel days we’ve ever had. Miguel is an incredible guide and storyteller, and helped to make this a truly remarkable tour along the west coast of Portugal. I would recommend this private tour any day of the week after the wonderful experience we had with Miguel.
Hugo just dropped us off after a full day and we all agree our day could not have been better! He was patient, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable, informing us of much history and specialty details in Sintra, Pena Palace, Cabo do Roca (western most point of Europe), and the beautiful beaches and town of Cascais. We also enjoyed wine tasting and a fantastic lunch at a seaside restaurant with a most incredible view. He made sure to tailor the day to our preferences and gave us good options, though we completely trusted his judgment. He made getting from place to place look easy, especially effortlessly and quickly bypassing a long line at Pena Palace. Excellent tour and guide and well worth the price. Thank you for a day we’ll always remember with a smile!
Thank you so much for the amazing words! We are truly grateful! We hope you can visit us again soon! Kindest regards, Filipa Amorim
Our guide Manuel Silva was excellent and made our afternoon very enjoyable. As it was just my partner and I, Manuel discussed the route with us and offered us the opportunity to see the coast as well as Sintra. He stopped when possible to allow us to take photos and provided lots of interesting information about the palaces of Sintra and coastal places. It was a wonderful afternoon and I would thoroughly recommend.
