Nesta turnê de grupo pequeno "Nos passos da Segunda Guerra Mundial", mergulhamos na história. Este é um grande complemento para passeios sobre a história judaica em Amsterdã e a Casa de Anne Frank. Visitamos um antigo campo de concentração nazista, com seus quartéis, monumentos e crematório. Corrie Ten Boom foi preso aqui durante a guerra. Muitos filhos judeus foram enviados para a Polônia e centenas de membros da resistência foram executados. Também visitaremos os locais da Operação Mercado Jardim e da Batalha de Arnhem: qual foi o plano e como falhou? Quais foram as implicações para o povo Holandês e as forças aliadas? A exposição no Museu Airborne em Arnhem, o cemitério de guerra e a ponte John Frost são um must-see nesta visita. Visitamos o antigo campo de concentração nazista de Vught, no sul da Holanda. O campo foi usado pela primeira vez em 1942 e mantinha 31 mil prisioneiros judeus e políticos. Visitaremos os restos do campo de concentração com suas torres de vigia, quartéis, crematório, trem original e memorial infantil. Também visitamos o local da execução na mata onde mais de 300 membros da resistência foram executados. O acampamento possui uma livraria, um bom audio tour e uma pequena cafeteria.
A ponte John Frost sobre o Reno em Arnhem foi a última ponte que precisou ser capturada durante a Operação Market Garden. Se os Aliados conseguissem capturar esta ponte, o caminho para a Alemanha ficaria aberto. A ponte desempenha um papel importante no filme A Bridge Too Far.
Visitamos o Museu Aerotransportado em Villa Hartenstein. Durante a Batalha de Arnhem em setembro de 1944, que fazia parte da operação militar Market Garden, Hartenstein tornou-se o quartel-general da Divisão Aerotransportada Britânica durante combates pesados. A ousada tentativa de romper as linhas alemãs e capturar a área do Ruhr para encerrar rapidamente a guerra não teve sucesso. A ponte de Arnhem revelou-se demasiado longe. Agora, Hartenstein é o lar de histórias pessoais de soldados britânicos, poloneses e alemães, bem como de civis, contadas através dos objetos históricos únicos do museu.
Visitaremos o Cemitério de Guerra de Arnhem Oosterbeek. Aqui a maioria dos 1.684 soldados caídos nos desembarques de setembro são sepultados.

A must do. I cannot recommend this tour enough. This is a small, intimate tour with a very knowledgeable guide. The tour guide takes the time to share their own personal experiences, which adds another layer to the tour which is absolutely moving.
We had a very moving and informal trip to Camp Vught, and Arnhem. Ava at Dutch Tours was incredibly friendly, helpful, empathetic and informative - even sharing her own stories along with the background to this period of time. Thank you so much for making our time in Amsterdam so memorable!

Trip was an excellent tour. Sarah provided an excellent narrative with some personal history and cultural info. She was a great driver and was very courteous to our group. We had people with dietary needs and she was able to find us a great restaurant. She knew her history at all the stops. We loved the Airbourne Museum and we'll never forget our trip to Kamp Vught. I strongly recommend this tour.

Eva provided so much background and personal experiences passed on from members in her family to help us understand the brevity of what happened, why and the inhumane treatment of the Jews and others who tried to protect them. Heartbreaking how all this unfolded. Additionally, Eva thoroughly described the Battle of Arnhem and how it came to be and why followed by a trip to the museum and Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery, where over 1700 Allied soldiers were buried. The entire experience of seeing the war site, museum and cemetary gave me a very good understanding what our allied troops were fighting against and why. This was an extremely educational day and I'm very happy I booked this tour. I needed to know. I highly recommend this tour to others who are unclear how well organized concentration and elimination camps were designed and orchestrated by the Nazis to reach their end goal in their reign of perceived superiority and how necessary it was for our Allied forces to fight them.

The Footsteps of WWII tour was a humbling experience. Our tour guide Eva was the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors. Eva shared the personal experiences of her father and grandparents throughout the day which helped immerse us in that time period and helped us process the sites from a different perspective. The Airborne Museum at Villa Hartenstein was very well done, we could have spent days there. The grounds and audio narrative of Camp Vught concentration camp were well done. Eva was very personable, accommodating and her English was excellent. Eva was a great story teller which helped us understand the oppression of the Jewish community in the Netherlands. This was a great tour with an amazing tour guide. We would highly recommend this tour.
