Very interesting History of the Castle, Hungary as a whole and a nod to the legend of Count Dracula

Extremely interesting history of Buda castle, Budapest and Hungary itself throughout the middle ages including the continued wars between Austro-Hungarian empire and the Ottoman empire. Hungary has a rich history which was brought to life through a historic tour of the Buda castle by our very knowledgeable guide Peter. Stops along the tour were accompanied by stories steeped in both historic fact and legends passed down through the ages. Fluid borders in the region of the time brought Buda into contact with the count of Transylvania and thus, the legend of Count Dracula was born, half truth and fact, half superstitions and storytelling, but knowledge that gives interesting context to, arguably, the most widely known of the supernatural creatures, vampires! Peter delivered the information with extensive knowledge, great story telling and more than a smidge of humour as our group followed him up the steep cliff and around the castle. It was a full two hours, so be sure to take some water to drink, and be prepared to be on your feet all that time, as there were limited places or opportunities to sit, which is okay for the younger crowd, but at my age, it was about my limit. So, if you are interested in not just how the city you visit looks today, but how it became and who were it's influencers, this is a great tour to learn about Budapest and, more widely, Hungary and it's history. The nod to the vampires is a bit of a lure to get you interested, but it was very interesting nonetheless.

Great walking tour of Budapest with Ghoulish stories.

Great walking tour of Buda with interesting stories of a ghoulish nature. Steep steps to start but once done a flat tour to finish. Nothing was rushed. Bernadette did a great job of telling these and dressed for the part. As it was my first evening in Budapest a great way to start.

Advanterous but a bit too loong

Our guide was dedicated and very knowledgable about the city history. His stories were mostly fun to listen to, and he clearly loved being in that role. The biggest downside was that our stops could've been shorter. It was a looong tour with many stories at once. So you may argue it was valueable for money but definitely shorter would've been better. Also considering that there kids in the group (not mine), some stories sounded too grotesk and inaprorpirate, I think.

Fun Tour - But could have used more emphasize on history than the vampire guide shtick

It was a fun tour 3.5/5. Definitely campy vibes - which unfortunately I feel took the focus away from history and some of the stories to emphasize the bad jokes and vampire guide character. It made it hard to ask questions and approach the guide since it was more of a script recital. Fun tour regardless but not one of my favourites.

Take the stairs and hope you don’t miss anything.

Don’t take the funicular. You will miss the first 1/3 of the tour. I certainly would not recommend this tour.

Resposta do operador

Dear Customer, We would like to clarify a few points regarding your review. As clearly stated in the voucher provided to you (and to all our customers), taking the funicular is entirely optional. The voucher also specifies that the group reaches the top of the hill approximately 20 -23 minutes after the tour begins. Guests who choose the funicular only miss a single story time halfway up the hill—not one-third of the tour, as stated in your review. The full tour lasts approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes. Our guides are always happy to recount the missed informations between the following stops, and this was also offered to you during your tour. Unfortunately, you chose to leave the tour before giving us the opportunity to do so. In addition, as a gesture of goodwill, we exceptionally provided you with a refund, despite the tour being delivered in accordance with the information provided before the tour. We are therefore disappointed to see a negative review that does not reflect the efforts we made to accommodate you and ensure you had an enjoyable experience.

Review of vampire night tour

There were simply too many people in the group. While the guide did her best to project her voice, it was very difficult to hear her. Even when standing close, there was significant background noise from loud music, the fountain, and children crying , making it challenging to follow the tour. I would recommend using a microphone or audio amplification system to ensure everyone can clearly hear the guide.

Resposta do operador

Dear Customer, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you found it difficult to hear the guide during the tour. Unfortunately, as our tours take place in public areas, factors such as street performers, fountains, traffic, and other visitors can sometimes create background noise that is beyond our control. Our group sizes are kept within the limits advertised and are designed to ensure an enjoyable experience for everyone. Our guides are trained to project their voices clearly and to stop at locations where the group can gather as closely as possible. Guests are also encouraged to let the guide know during the tour if they are having difficulty hearing, so adjustments can be made whenever possible. We appreciate your suggestion regarding audio amplification. While the use of microphones or headsets is not always practical in a walking tour, we will certainly take your feedback into consideration as we continue to improve our experience. Thank you again for your comments, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again in the future.

Interesting walk great stories but lots of detail

Guide Peter was friendly, very knowledgeable and helpful. The tour was a little too detailed for our liking but for some this may not find this an issue. The amount of tales was amazing but maybe provided us with too much background information. There are quite a lot of steps at the first part of the walk so be aware, although it does mention in the description that you can miss the start of the walk and use the funicular.
