Mario was a fantastic guide: friendly, informative and open to questions! We learnt of the history of oyster farming and eating, wine, salt, and the history of the area. Oysters and wine were a great (second) breakfast, the wine and guided tasting was great - a perfect half a day! The tour was well organised: my tip for all is that the winery doesn't take card.
Very interesting tour, our guide, Mela, was insightful and a good driver. The day was a bit long, but it was worth it as it allowed us to see another part of Croatia and learn more about their vineyards and oyster culture. I recommend it!
Mario was amazing! The tour was so relaxed, but so informative and fun. My friend and I ended up being the only two people who had booked that day so it became a private tour for us. We highly recommend this tour not just for the amazing wine and food we tasted, but also for Mario's deep knowledge and love for wine, as well as the amazing drive around the towns we visited.
Fantastic day really good experience and educational
Thanks very much and hope to see you again.
Mario is absolutely a wonderful guide for your wine adventure, but he’s even a better person. Your experience with him on his tours will be a memorable one with lots of great memories, knowledge, beautiful scenery, tasty wine (the posip grape is one of the best), and photos that will be forever there.
We had a wonderful wine tour experience with Mario. He originated wine tourism out of Dubrovnik many years ago. He's a certified somelier who is extremely knowledgeable about the region and wine knowledgeable generally. An amazing storyteller who can turn any topic into an epic conversation. We have done a lot of wine tourism and Mario was able to tailor our experience to the level of our knowledge. Overall an amazing time and I can't recommend Mario highly enough.
Nice tour with a good mix of site seeing and experience of local items like wine and oysters. Mario was a great, knowledgeable guide that tried to make our experience interesting. My only reason for a 4-star rating was the schedule that was far from optimal for a morning tour. Instead of starting with site seeing of Stone, when it was cooler, we started with oyster and wine tasting which took place before 10am. Wine with oysters at such an early hour was not something to fully enjoy. And that was closely followed by wine tasting. And finally the Ston stop at mid day when it was hotter and less pleasant for walking around. Doing everything in reverse order would have been more enjoyable, not to mention that this is how is described in Viator’s overview. If you can take this half day tour in the afternoon is a better choice. Otherwise if you don’t mind wine early in the morning then I would recommend it. The tour was otherwise nice and as I said Mario tried to make it pleasant, even if he didn’t want to change the order of activities.
Hi, tour was clearly described which states first stop and all other stops. Not possible to change anything as there were other people on the tour who enjoyed all as described. I suggest next booking you do anywhere just read before and don’t complain later. Tour is called Oyster Farm, Ston and Winery Tour for same reason and No one complained about oysters and wine as the best breakfast they had. Mario
This was our favourite day of our 7-day trip to Dubrovnik! Mela was so kind and knowledgeable—she shared so much about the region, as well as the local wine and oysters. The experience felt very personal, as she took the time to answer all of our questions. She also gave us great recommendations for restaurants and places to explore in the city. Thank you for such a wonderful experience, Mela!
My wife and I recently enjoyed a wonderful trip with our guide, Mario, where we immersed ourselves in the rich world of Croatian wine and oysters. One of the highlights was visiting a traditional oyster farm, where we sampled the freshest oysters imaginable—plucked straight from the sea and served simply with a squeeze of lemon. It was a new experience for my wife, who had always been a bit hesitant about trying oysters. With a little encouragement, she gave it a go—and to her surprise, she actually enjoyed it! The day continued with an exceptional wine tasting hosted by Tony, a passionate winemaker whose family has been crafting wine for generations. We tasted five distinct wines, each with its own character and story, and came away with a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship and tradition behind Croatian winemaking. To round off a perfect day, we stopped in the ancient city of Ston and enjoyed a leisurely 45-minute walk through its charming streets, soaking in the history and timeless beauty of this remarkable place.
My partner, I and four of our friends had a great time with Mario and his beautiful wife Mela last summer. They took us for a day tour, starting with a delicious breakfast at the Oyster Farm, straight from the sea and paired with a matching sparkling wine. That was followed by a visit to Terra Madre and Grgic wineries, both sporting stunning views of the Adriatic coast and islands and the selection of finest wines from the region. Wine tasting was curated by Mario, whose extensive knowledge and passion for wines made it very special for us. The tour ended with lunch at Konoba Vitaceae, cooked by the lovely owner Vedran from his own catch of the day. That was a day to remember, and I am sure we'll be back to make some more memories with our great hosts Mela and Mario.
