Great experience with good people
Marvin & the entire group of guides were amazing. I had such a wonderful time, the view and the experience is just insane. The accommodation is good too, I was very scared of getting too cold at night but the sleeping bag is very warm.
Biggest reasons to choose CA - everything provided (down to the entrance park fee!) - great trail that’s mostly shaded and a good pacing of the walk - they’re Guatemalan owned and operated! They support the community and school near Acatenango, which is really really important! I adored my group and my guides, and I felt safe and supported the whole time. My biggest worry about doing Acatenango last minute was a lack of training- I eat healthy, but the gym hasn’t seen me consistently in two years. However, I found that with hiring a porter (money goes straight to the community!) and the pacing of the hike, it was doable even for a novice. Biggest advice: pay attention to your shoes and your socks, pay for a porter, and then repeat the reason why you want to get up this big freaking volcano to yourself while you walk! I thought that CA’s cabins were clean and comfortable, with an AMAZING view of Fuego. I did not do the extra Fuego hike (opted to wait for the sunrise) and was personally satisfied with my views of all the action. However, most of my group went on Fuego and said that is was SO HARD and SO WORTH IT! Other random reminders: - put on sunscreen before you hike down - bring a tip for the guides; they climb this thing multiple times a week and are still cheering you on! - pack three layers on top and two layers on bottom, windbreaker, and a beanie. I wore ALL of this to bed and was cozy!
amazing experience! the guides were wonderfull, so kind and fun. our guide Toni was full of energy, had the best talks with her. I cancelled the first time I booked, but they were kind enough to give me a discount when I booked it the second time, so gratefull! the view is amazing and it's a once in a lifetime experience. the hike is challenging, especially mentally, but is so worth it!
The tour guides do a great job of making you feel safe and getting the most out of the experience. Marvin in particular is awesome and would be more than happy to have him as our guide again!
A once-in-a-lifetime experience that I can highly recommend. The organisation by CA Travelers was really smooth and Wilson was a great guide. It was one of the most exhausting hikes I’ve done so far (and I’ve done a few), but once you reach the camp, the Fuego hike and the hike to peak of Acatenango are optional and you can see how you feel. I did the extra Fuego hike right after ascending to the camp and that was the exhausting part for me. In any case, all the effort was definitely worth it and I’d say this hike is an absolute must-do activity when you’re in Guatemala. Thanks for the great experience to CA Travelers.
I really enjoyed my first ever volcano hike with Marvin as our head guide. I made a ton do new friends there too and, frankly -even though the hike was grueling: in the end it felt unbelievable
Arduous hike. Requires heavy, lifting of the baggage all along the way up. Relatively doable by inexperienced people but if you’re not active and you’re over 35 years old I would strongly recommend against doing this without some preparation. Paying for the porters definitely helps. I went during the Rainey summer season and we still got great views but that is apparently a gamble. Lots of extra fees with this company for the bag, for the extra hikes up top, for the poles (which I strongly recommend especially on the way down as they make a bigger difference than the way up). There are cabins for 2 people but most people ended up in cabins of 3-4 just fyi. The fuego hike is particularly intense after a long day hike up the mountain for views that are more or less the same as from your cabin but the only difference is it is closer by a little bit. Another issue to consider is this company starts the hike so late in the day that there really wasn’t a ton of time up in the viewing cabin relaxing or cooking marshmallows before leaving right away.
Incredible experience! Thanks to Wilson and the entire team, excellent guides who make you feel very comfortable. 10/10 recommended!
Great people, great tour!!!!
