The Vatican, the Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica are breathtaking monuments of history, art, and faith. I really appreciated the skip-the-line feature of this tour, which allowed us to move through quickly on a super hot day. This could have been a truly great day, if only our tour guide, Joy, had kept her personal political beliefs to herself and stuck to historical and religious facts. Instead, she repeatedly brought a political narrative into the tour by exclusively referring to the historic and biblical land of Israel as "Palestine." When guiding a tour deeply rooted in the history of Abrahamic religions, language and accuracy matter. Exclusively using a term that did not exist during the eras being discussed is historically inaccurate, alienating, and misguiding to guests. For the record, and for the education of this tour company’s staff, here are the undisputed facts regarding the text and timelines: Scriptural Facts: The word "Palestine" appears 0 times in the Torah, 0 times in modern translations of the entire Bible, and 0 times in the Quran (where the region is instead referred to as the Holy or Blessed Land). Meanwhile, "Israel" or "Children of Israel" appears over 590 times in the Torah, over 2,500 times in the Bible, and 43 times in the Quran. Historical Timeline: Using the term "Palestine" for early biblical events is a major historical anachronism. Moses lived around the 13th century BCE and led the people to Canaan. Jesus was born and raised a century before the Roman Empire officially changed the region's administrative name to Syria Palaestina in 135 CE; during his lifetime, he lived and walked in Judea and Galilee. For a professional guide to completely bypass these historical timelines, as well as universally accepted, inclusive terms like "The Holy Land," felt entirely deliberate. I am someone who always goes above and beyond to tip guides generously (especially on an uncomfortably hot day), but due to Joy’s lack of professional neutrality, historical inaccuracy, and divisive language, this was the first time I chose not to leave a tip. I strongly urge management to properly educate their guides on actual historical timelines and enforce strict professional neutrality. Guests pay for history, art, and smooth access, not a guide's personal political opinion.
Great tour experience with Shak. She made explanations simple and fun. She was aware of the whole group’s needs and made sure everybody was engaging and enjoying the experience. I’ve been in a number of tours in the past but Shak takes the cake. Thank you very much for having her give us the tour

Guided tour is a necessity thru Vatican, Sistene Chapel and St Peter’s Basilica. Our guide, Shak, was absolutely WONDERFUL! She was so knowledgeable and guided us thru the crowds with ease. Definitely recommend!!!
Our tour was wonderful, our guide was knowledgeable and pointed out so many things in and outside of the Basilica, but that is where it ended. This is where the warning comes in - I booked the tour based on the advertised name and a confirmation email was sent with the same tour title, which included the Sistine Chapel - well the Vatican is closed on Sundays, so all we saw was the Basilica. When the guide was wrapping up, there were at least 3 other families that were confused as well, this was a clear case of bait and switch. I contacted Viator and the response was I should have checked my tickets, which if you use this service, you know come a day or two before the tour, we were already in Italy enjoying our time so I incorrectly assumed our tickets matched the name of the tour/email. I would have set my trip up differently had I known that the tour did not include the Sistine Chapel, Viator’s handling of our situation left a lot to be desired. Yes, maybe I should know that the Vatican is closed on Sunday, but I’m not Catholic, do not visit Rome regularly so I’m unsure how I would have known that a tour titled Vatican, Sistine Chapel and Basilica, did not include two of the stated items.
