We were absolutely thrilled with the city tour of the Viktualienmarkt with Weißvogel! The tour was not only extremely informative but also lively and entertaining. You can immediately tell that a lot of passion and expertise come together here. I particularly enjoyed the mix of historical background information, exciting anecdotes, and insights into the current significance of the Viktualienmarkt. Even as a local, I was able to discover a lot of new things. The tour was very engaging, varied, and perfectly organized. The guide managed to convey the atmosphere of Munich authentically and individually addressed the group. Questions were answered competently and kindly at any time. I can wholeheartedly recommend this tour – a great experience for tourists as well as for Munich residents themselves!
Eva was a great, knowledgeable guide, had a lot to share, and had supplementary materials on hand, using them for visual reference whenever appropriate. We have already done the City Bird Tour over the Viktualienmarkt twice - and it is always delightful!
It was a very nice tour from the Isartor over to the Viktualienmarkt. Many great stories and interesting facts about the old city of Munich. Highly recommended, and not just for tourists.
Dear ladies and gentlemen, I will now take the time to provide a detailed report of the visit. I allow myself to offer personal criticism, as I have already attended the night watchman tour and, involuntarily, the delicacies tour (the Viktualien tour was booked but was changed on short notice by them). Meeting point: the Isartor is a reasonable meeting point. Few tourists and certainly easy for everyone to find. For me personally, it was relatively tedious as there were no recognizable tour guides on site and we had to inquire with various providers. When the tour guides finally appeared, they were recognizable. However, it was not clear who was responsible for which tour. As soon as the payment was completed, we were directed to a corner. There we waited, not knowing whether we were waiting for more participants or for the tour guides to finish their private chat. Welcome drink: this promotional activity for your cooperation partner is certainly understandable at the Schmankerl Tour. However, it is inappropriate for the Viktualien Tour, as it is time-consuming advertising for a mediocre product. On the march to the Viktualienmarkt, there was extensive information provided about the remnants of the city wall. Certainly interesting, but more a part of a city tour rather than a tour of the market. Upon arriving at the market, the next advertisement for the cooperation partner was made with the note that one should visit the stand after the tour, as they have a corresponding product for every ailment. From the same location, the best pretzel in Munich was advertised. In passing, we briefly received the information that the operator does not like to adhere to applicable laws. Hastily passing by the stand to immediately receive the next promotional activity about the supposedly best bread in Munich. We continued on to the sour corner. There we learned that the best Bavarian antipasti are available. The brief cucumber episode was explained, and we moved on. Once briefly across the square to the Heiliggeist Church. There, the best pretzels and Bavarian antipasti were served for tasting. Now, as a restaurateur and the person responsible for the preparation of the dishes, I would like to point out a few criticisms regarding the served products. The best pretzel in Munich is relatively small. As a result, 80% of the dough sections are relatively thin, and thus the crust ratio is very high. In the evening at Aumeister, the best pretzel was far surpassed. I certainly consider sour cucumber to be a Bavarian antipasti. But now please explain to me, what do hummus, Greek goat cheese, Greek and Turkish olives, and small bell peppers have to do with Bavaria? For fun, I would rather classify Weisswurst and Leberkäs as Bavarian antipasti. After all, we received about 4 minutes of information about the market at this stand. The market square, the number of stalls, the inhumane working conditions, and the number of cellar rooms were briefly discussed. Afterward, the location changed by an estimated 3 meters, and we received information about the butcher's row at the old city wall. Shortly thereafter, we were served the best bread in Munich, complemented by your cold platter. Here too, the meat products were rather average and certainly not a highlight. During the delicacy tour, a liver cheese was served at the same place, which was certainly a better product than the various cold meat products. Now followed a somewhat bizarre interlude in the church. At least for Swiss people, it is hard to understand informing a tour group in a church that really has no interest in this church. Fundamentally, we booked a tour for the Viktualienmarkt, which suggests that we have only limited interest in the church, especially since it is not really related to the market. After that, we went to the last location for cheese tasting. In passing, we learned how conservative Munich is and the incredible problems it has with signs on restroom doors and with vegan vendors. Interestingly, the first vegan stall opened two years ago, which leads me to suspect that there were no vegetable vendors in the square before that time. It was explained that the cheese stand produces five cheeses in-house in Munich. Great. Afterward, three cheeses were tasted. This raises the question for me whether the budget of €50 per person, after already tasting products worth about three euros per person, was stretched to the point that the last two cheese varieties from this innovative company could not be tasted anymore. All in all, there was a nice, always eager tour guide who had to serve as a better advertising icon for selected cooperation partners. The information about the market was more than sparse. However, we had to realize that the majority of the tour's visitors were more interested in food than in information. Such people would honestly need to be told that with €50 at the market, they would receive significantly more food. To be honest, we could have used the time of the tour much more meaningfully and cost-effectively. I hope the criticism was objective and detailed enough. I do not expect a response, as this was also the case with my email in 2021. We will certainly not recommend the white city bird, our customers, partners, and families for tours in the future. It was a very entertaining tour. The history of the Viktualienmarkt was conveyed excitingly. You can tell that Joachim is a guide with body and soul. The selection of culinary delights was very good.
Maybe our rating is influenced by cold weather and rain, but still: Influenced by the description, we went without breakfast and hungry for the tour - and had to wait over 1h until we got something to eat. At the beginning of the tour there was a shot glass with cold juice, then we were told a lot about the delicious food like the fish rolls. Many booths said - we'll try that later. At some point they bought pretzels, which we were only to get later, because we were to eat them with antipasti. Since it was 12 o'clock in the meantime, we were really struggling without breakfast, always hearing about the delicious food and getting Nix. After more than 1 h I finally got the pretzel, I got it from above the bag which was freezing cold and wet in the meantime (it would have been delicious right after the purchase). The antipasti didn't come a little later. Even if they were delicious, we would have been more happy about a whole typical cucumber than about 3 slices of cucumber with hummus and pickled peppers. Then there was a sausage platter, from which you could take a pickser sausage on slices of bread. Some of the group bought warm liver rolls here, which looked much better in the cold than cold sausage breads. We left the tour at this point because it was much too cold without something warm and the next announced cheese plate (probably with bread) and another announced slice of the best bread did not irritate us. We also preferred to buy liver cheese rolls! We think that such a tasting tour could be organized much better - the food should be distributed equally in time and the top product from each stand - preferably as finger food. Our guide was nice, informative and probably could not make regarding the process.
A great birthday present from my friends! The tour was great. In addition to the treats, there were exciting historical insights into the city's history and a lot to smile about. Gabi led the tour and did very well!
Basically, my expectations regarding historical overview and current condition have been fulfilled.Unfortunately, my expectation of figures on sales or customer contacts or booth rentals has not been answered, which is of course because neither the dealers nor the lessor publishes the corresponding information. My expectations were too high, Nonetheless, all the tasting bites were very delicious, I bought a little something at the cheese stand after the tour.
