Authentic homestead dogsledding experience with 3 different (I-wanna-take-them-all-home-with-me) dog breeds. The owner/operator, Tabitha is welcoming and a wealth of information. Learn about what it takes to raise these special puppers, the history of this way of life, special gear needed and then…go for the most fun ride of your life (summer tours available, too).
Owner offered education on raising / training dogs and sledding process. No snow, so rode in ATV W/ 3 dogs “pulling” vehicle. Not very scenic or well organized. Had to wait while dogs were hooked to ATV and owner poop scooped. One person operation. Very limited interaction w/ dogs.
Greetings and Im sorry that this tour did not meet your expectations. Every time someone visits, I strive to give the most information and paint an accurate picture of our wintertime activities plus give you a demonstration via UTV. There is a lot to cover in 1.5hrs but I do my best! In the tour description, it is listed as UTV and no snow. As per temperatures, I do assist dogs up the incline portion of the trail. On your particular tour, which was openly considered a training run, 3 dogs pulled over 1 thousand pounds while you sat and I explained this. Cleaning up after dogs is an all day adventure here so we all do not bring souvenirs of the wrong type back with us. The level of interaction is based on the guests comfort level, I suggest bringing outdoor clothing for this small group, personalized tour.
Very good explanation of the care, training & utilization of dogs. We were able to experience the dogs pulling us thru a trail. Tabatha was very informative , personable & you could see the enjoyment & love for the dogs. Mikey was also knowledgeable & enthusiastic. His explanation enhanced our experience
Such an awesome experience! We live local and have gotten to visit a few different sled dogs, but this was great! The kids got lots of time riding and visiting with the pups! Very friendly family!
The owner of the Huskys Tabitah told us in detail everything about keeping and caring for the dogs. It was very informative and she answered many questions. Then the dogs pulled us into a really great forest area. All huskys are very friendly, just like Tabitah. This excursion gets the highest number of stars from us. He was very authentic and always remains unforgettable for us.
Thank you for visiting, Im glad to hear you enjoyed the experience and yes I like to be as informative to guests as possible. The dogs are very friendly indeed! Cheers!
Enjoyed a great kennel visit to Howling Bay. Tabitha’s passion for her dogs and knowledge for their care is extraordinary. Her candid and down to earth explanations added to the hands-on interaction with her dogs. The dogs… were so happy to see us and we loved spending the time with them. Definitely at the top of our experiences in Fairbanks, as well as Alaska overall.
Great dogs in a remote location, but the dogs really didn’t ’pull’ us as they were hooked up to a UTV we were in with the UTV doing most of the pulling.
Sorry the tour did not meet your expectations. It is advertised appropriately stating ATVs are used. Motor assist is used in temperatures above 40F with almost every ethical sleddog kennel during the summer tourist season, so the dogs do not overheat.
Dog sledding is a must-do in Fairbanks and Howling Bay Kennels offered a wonderful, memorable experience. Tabitha took time to educate us on the unique lifestyle of sledding. Her love and meticulous care for her dogs is evident and they were extremely affectionate towards us.
Hello, Thank you for your visit and glad to hear that you enjoyed your time with us! Thank you for supporting the dogs! Yes the dogs want all of the affection and they most certainly get it! Cheers!
A great experience. We learned a lot about the dogs, saw some beautiful countryside on our ride, and enjoyed the very friendly and personal care of our hosts
Greetings! Thank you for visiting and glad to hear that you enjoyed the experience with the dogs!
