A highlight of our trip to New Zealand. We spent a fantastic day cycling with Gordon from R&R Adventures through some truly stunning scenery. We had originally booked the Karangahake Gorge ride, but after a recent landslide Gordon contacted us quickly through Viator and offered several alternative routes. We therefore chose the Te Awa River Ride inatead and it turned out to be an amazing experience. The trail is beautiful, with smooth paths and purpose built boardwalks winding through wetlands, woodland and green farmland, much of it alongside the sparkling Te Awa River. It is easily one of the most scenic bike rides we experienced in New Zealand. There were only two of us on the tour, so Gordon brought his wife and a couple of friends along which made the whole day feel relaxed and personal, like cycling with friends rather than being on a formal tour. We stopped along the way to take photos, enjoy the scenery and refuel with delicious homemade banana loaf and cookies. We covered around thirty miles all in all, finishing at the impressive National Velodrome after riding through Hamilton before heading back to Auckland. Gordon was a brilliant host, friendly, knowledgeable and a clear cycling enthusiast. The hotel pickup and drop off from Auckland made everything easy and stress free too. We chose electric bikes which were excellent and made the ride comfortable while still feeling like a great day of cycling. If you are looking for a scenic cycling tour in New Zealand or a relaxed electric bike adventure in or near Auckland, I highly recommend reaching out to Gordon at R&R.
Thanks Steve, see you on your next adventure to NZ.
Gordon was a great guide. Unfortunately the storms cut our ride short but we enjoyed seeing the countryside and listening to our guide’s knowledge of kiwi life and history. Will definitely book again on our next visit.
Our tour was changed to Te Arua trail due to the recent weather but we really enjoyed the alternative. The bikes are top notch - such comfy saddles, and it was a fantastic way to see the Waikato region. We cycled for 50km and for a lot of the time we saw no one else. If the Te Arua bike trail has been created with some of the NZ visa fee we pay to visit the country I think it’s been a great investment.
The E-bike tour of the gorge was absolutely wonderful. Gordon was so kind and knowledgeable about all things New Zealand! Not only did we learn a lot, we saw gorgeous scenery and got a workout in too! I would recommend this excursion to absolutely anyone seeking a little adventure and wanting to learn more about New Zealand. Cannot say enough good things about this experience!
Thanks Dupree, hope to see you on another one of our tours next time you’re in NZ.
This was really good tour of the gold mining country of the north island. The bikes are in top shape, the scenery is wonderful of the river gorge. Gordon is a bit of an introvert, but he is very nice and has planned the excursion well. Pro tip: Make sure you’re familiar with e-bikes before you go; a couple people on our trip weren’t and had a bit of difficulty during parts of the ride. You’ll have a great time!
A group of five of us have just completed a five day cycle tour with Gordon. I cannot rate it highly enough. Gordon designed the tour especially for us after asking what we would prefer to do. Most of us were not very experienced riders, just doing one cycle trip each year. The bikes were very comfortable and great to ride. The scenery was stunning and there was plenty of opportunities to stop, enjoy the view and take photos etc. The accommodation was excellent and suited our group perfectly. Gordon was very knowledgeable regarding the trails and was able to tailor the tour to our abilities as the tour went on. I can highly recommend Gordon and R and R Adventures. It was a fabulous experience.
Five of us have just an awesome five days cycling trails on the Firth of Thames, through the Karangahake Gorge and along the Waikato River. Fantastic organisation by R & R Adventures with excellent accommodation, catering, and options to suit skill levels and our wishes. Thanks Gordon & Co, it was everything we wanted and more.
Had a great adventure on the last day of our holiday break on an e-bike tour of the #karangahakegorge. Loved riding through the mine tunnel and seeing the mine facilities. Gordon from R&R Adventures contributed his invaluable experience and info to make this such a fun experience.
Glad you enjoyed your adventure with us Jennifer. You'll have to try one of the other great trails in the Waikato the next time you come over.
A must do! A fun enjoyable day. Gordon was professional, informative and cared about our safety. Highly recommended. Thank you I hope we get the chance to do again.
Gordon and his wife are amazing, Gordon leads such an interesting trip, he's very patient with slow riders and the lunch that was included in the trip was fantastic, lovely wraps or rolls you make as you like with home baking, tea, coffee and cold drinks offered. 100% recommend this day trip for anyone wanting to explore the Karangahake Gorge. Thank you so much for an excellent day out.
