Final payment accepted. €500 more demanded. Tour cancelled

Several months ago I booked a 6-day private Balkans tour through TourRadar. I paid the deposit and later made the final payment as required. What followed was troubling. A few weeks before departure, the company sent a message through the TourRadar app — which I didn't see — requesting an additional €250, citing fuel costs and a pricing error. That message explicitly stated that whether or not I paid would not affect the tour. One week before departure, the story changed. I received a WhatsApp message demanding €500. This time there was no reassurance — I was told the tour would be cancelled if I didn't pay. I refused. I had already made my final payment through TourRadar, and I wasn't about to pay more under threat of cancellation. The company cancelled the tour anyway. I had to scramble to rebook hotels and day tours with a week's notice. Two things stand out. First, the reasons kept shifting — a pricing error should have been caught and corrected before the final payment was processed, not after. Second, the amount doubled between the first request and the ultimatum, with no explanation. I never took the tour, so I can't rate the experience itself. What I can say is this: if a company collects your final payment and then demands more money under threat of cancellation, that's not a fuel surcharge. That's a shakedown. This is not how legitimate tour companies operate. Book with caution.

Resposta do operador

Hello, Your review is unfair, misleading, and morally wrong. You did not take this tour with us. You did not experience our service, our guides, our vehicles, our hotels, or our organization. Therefore, presenting this as a real customer experience is dishonest. The situation was very clear from the beginning: there was a pricing mistake on TourRadar for a 6-day private Balkan tour. The price you received was far below the real cost of operating the tour and was not even enough to cover the basic expenses of transport, fuel, guide/driver costs, accommodation, cross-border logistics, and operations. We are a small, professional tour operator with a 4.9/5 rating and more than 55 reviews on TourRadar. We have built our reputation through honest work, quality service, and fair treatment of our guests. Trying to take advantage of an obvious pricing mistake from a small local company is not fair, and it says a lot about the attitude you brought into this situation. More than one month before the tour, we contacted you and gave you a corrected quote that would have allowed us to operate the tour without profit, simply to respect the booking as much as possible. After that, the situation escalated further: fuel prices increased dramatically due to the international crisis, the Suez Canal disruption, and the exchange rate between the euro and Albanian lek reached a historic low. These were not normal circumstances, and they directly affected the cost of operating multi-day cross-border tours. All other customers affected during that period understood the situation and agreed to the necessary adjustments, because we all live in the same unpredictable world. You were the only one whose booking we cancelled, not simply because of the money, but because of your attitude and your refusal to treat the situation with basic fairness. Under Albanian law, including the Civil Code of the Republic of Albania, Law No. 7850, dated 29.07.1994, a legal act affected by an essential mistake or decisive calculation mistake may be corrected or challenged, and obligations affected by circumstances beyond the debtor’s fault may be treated differently when performance becomes impossible or unreasonable under the original conditions. In addition, under TourRadar’s own terms and the operator’s terms and conditions, we had the right to cancel in the circumstances we were facing, especially when the tour could not be operated under the mistaken price and a fair solution could not be reached. We did not cancel at the last minute. We informed you well in advance, tried to find a solution, and acted transparently. What you are doing now is not a fair review of a tour experience. It is retaliation because we refused to operate a 6-day private Balkan tour at a price created by a clear platform/pricing mistake. You should be ashamed of trying to damage the reputation of a small local tour operator simply because we refused to be exploited.

Nice 6 day Balkan tour

The sites were beautiful and interesting with so much history. Our guide was relatively new and did not always know a lot about the places we visited. Also, with road construction, the drive to Kotor was very long and not sure it was worth it

Thank you very much for your honest review. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the beautiful sites and history. Regarding the guide, we understand your point. He is a young guide and was doing his best, and we truly appreciate your understanding. About the drive to Kotor, this is exactly why we now suggest a shorter route on that day, visiting beautiful places in Montenegro that are closer and more comfortable to reach. We are sorry this was not explained clearly enough by the guide the day before. Thank you again for your feedback. It helps us improve.
