This was our second tour with Curt. He was again punctual to the meeting point. He did an excellent job of explaining Dachau in a way that was clear, but not TOO heavy for my 13-year-old. It was a very solemn day. Curt had many resources, including survivor stories, that made the information engaging. I did wish that we had brought snacks, as it is a large property and you don't want to skip anything.
We had an excellent experience with Big Hat Tours and our guide, Curt. His knowledge of Dachau’s history was truly exceptional, and he communicated everything with clarity, respect, and deep understanding. He handled the sensitivity of this difficult historical site with great care and professionalism. Highly recommend.
Curt is very knowledgeable which made the tour great it is a difficult topic but he gave it the respect it deserves. He provided details from personal friends he has met along the way that made it that more real. This is an important tour if you are in the area and he is a great guide to lead you
I read many great reviews of Curt's tours before scheduling with him. My expectations were high, and he definitely exceeded them. We actually had a Munich/3rd Reich Tour and the Dachau tour with him. He personalized our Munich/3rd Reich tour to the interests of our group and educated and entertained 12 adults in their 30s and 60s. He has so many personal stories from doing exhaustive research on the history of WWII and Munich itself. Our group gave Curt the highest marks!
Curt is without a doubt the best guide in Munich and Southern Bavaria. Not only are his tours informative and on point, but he provides additional context and background that makes the tour personal. Our group of 8 thought his level of detail was perfect, not only when it came to the Dachau site, but the surrounding area and the role it played. Curt began the tour by showing some photos of the area, all of which added context to what we would see. His timing was perfect for the trains and bus, and helped us avoid the crowds by some strategic planning. The quality of the information Curt provides is far better than what we heard from some other guides. It's almost as if Curt has insider information. Our trip concluded with an easy ride back into Munich where we said farewell to our excellent guide. Do not hesitate to book through Big Hat Tours and Curt. You will be impressed, amazed, and better for the knowledge you will gain on the tour. Small groups or large, this is the way to see Dachau. Our group had a nice breakfast before the tour and had no need to take a break during the tour, meaning we experienced as much as possible during the time with Curt.
Curt was an excellent tour guide on a very somber visit to Dachau. He had so much valuable information to give us all. He was a wonderful tour guide and we appreciated the visit.

We really enjoyed meeting Curt and having him shepherd us efficiently through Munich to Dachau. Once we arrived, he navigated us expertly around the grounds and provided us with detailed historical context and interesting insights into the use, expansion, and final days of the facility. It was much more nimble and productive to have a private tour. We were able to get to know Curt personally and learn all about his educational background and amazing life. Would love to catch up with him against in the future. Highly recommend this tour to any family who is serious about making the most of their time in Munich/Dachau and getting a significant education on the topics that span Hitler's rise to power, WWII, and the Holocaust.
What a moving experience. The depth of Curt’s knowledge made the entire time so real. We hung on every word. It is a chilling place, not to be taken lightly, and to be able to have access to the history that led to this horrible time was really a blessing. Curt is personable and constantly checking the “temp” of our group- whether to go deeper or not. We truly appreciated his time with us and all he’s learned. I can’t recommend him enough.
Really enjoyed my tours with Curt. I'm doing research for a book and it entered on Dachau. In addition to that, Curt showed me around the old city and took in elements of the Third Reich Tour. A very knowledgeable guy who always backs up stories with a huge library of photos on his iPad. Highly recommend this guy if you want to really know the history of Munich and especially if you go on the Dachau tour.
